Rockeye Posted May 9, 2020 Posted May 9, 2020 I am doing the mission Dawn Raiders for the F-18. Everything goes great up until I arm the AGM-62 Walleye. Master Arm on, AG selected, Walleye selected twice to activate the display. The screen comes up with the weapon options but no weapon optical is displayed. I select the DDI and uncage but I have no control of the weapon. I have watched several videos on how to deploy the AGM-62 and I have done the AGM-62 mission with no problems. Any idea of what I am doing wrong?
5ephir0th Posted May 9, 2020 Posted May 9, 2020 To do it you have to uncage and slew it WHILE you depress the TDC, same way as Maverick F NZXT H9 Flow Black | Intel Core i5 13600KF OCed P5.6 E4.4 | Gigabyte Z790 Aorus Elite AX | G.Skill Trident Z5 Neo DDR5-6000 32GB C30 OCed 6600 C32 | nVidia GeForce RTX 4090 Founders Edition | Western Digital SN770 2TB | Gigabyte GP-UD1000GM PG5 ATX 3.0 1000W | SteelSeries Apex 7 | Razer Viper Mini | SteelSeries Artics Nova 7 | LG OLED42C2 | Xiaomi P1 55" Virpil T-50 CM2 Base + Thrustmaster Warthog Stick | WinWing Orion 2 F16EX Viper Throttle | WinWing ICP | 3 x Thrustmaster MFD | Saitek Combat Rudder Pedals | Oculus Quest 2 DCS World | Persian Gulf | Syria | Flaming Cliff 3 | P-51D Mustang | Spitfire LF Mk. mlb406 Posted May 9, 2020 Posted May 9, 2020 I believe the Walleye needs time to cool down, maybe try giving it 3 minutes or so and see if that works?
Hammer1-1 Posted May 9, 2020 Posted May 9, 2020 Are you using the datalink pod that goes with it? If so, are you on the proper TV channel? TLTeo Posted May 9, 2020 Posted May 9, 2020 (edited) I had the same problem. It turns out the problem is in how the Walleye is implemented, specifically in how it handles lock range as a function of time of day. Not being able to lock stuff when it's dark makes sense since it uses an optical sensor, except currently it's much more punishing that it should be. For your typical time on target for that mission if I recall correctly you can only lock things about 1-2nm out, even though you can see the target through the Walleye's feed as well as in the training mission, which completely defeats the purpose of carrying a Walleye. If you want to complete that mission I suggest either a) edit it in the mission editor and start it one hour later, which will bring the lock range up to ~7nm or b) just carry a Litening and LGBs. Rockeye Posted May 10, 2020 Author Posted May 10, 2020 I tried it both ways, with and without the datalink. I made sure I was on the correct channel but no joy. I know the mission is Dawn Raiders but there is plenty of light. I will try the 3 min. cooldown. Thank you for all the options.
TLTeo Posted May 10, 2020 Posted May 10, 2020 Whether there is light or not doesn't matter, time of day does (which as I said is nonsense). At 7am when you get to the target, the Walleye doesn't lock unless you're very close whatever you're looking at. You can test this by changing the time of the training mission.
