CommandT Posted May 27, 2020 Posted May 27, 2020 Hey folks, is there anyone here that records gameplay via OBS? I have it set up so that in game I don't notice any performance hit when recording, however when I play the mp4 file that's been recorded something strange is happening - it's silky smooth when I fly over the ocean but as I approach the carrier fps just drop through the roof - like 15 maybe (unwatcheable) - yet the game ran fine during the recording, and I even have a track file saved which plays back smooth. Anybody here got any tips? Doesn't have to be OBS I guess, I just need to record the gameplay footage and have it play back smoothly, that is all. If it makes any difference - 4k @ 60fps. Cheers!
CL30 Posted May 27, 2020 Posted May 27, 2020 Hmm, I use OBS to record and don't have that issue at all. Unfortunately, I have no advice or help to offer, but interested to see if others have any ideas. Vertigo72 Posted June 10, 2020 Posted June 10, 2020 Just make sure to use nvidia nvenc as encoder (assuming you run an nVidia card, AMD probably has its own encoder). That uses a dedicated h264 encoder on the videocard. If you dont do that, you will let your poor CPU encode 4K 60 FPS in real time, and that just isnt gonna work on anything less than a threadripper. And maybe not even that.
