ED Team Groove Posted February 3, 2008 ED Team Posted February 3, 2008 Okay guys, im having some spare parts here so i built my own "dedicated" server for Lock On. The problem is that it starts lagging after a hour of playing or so, even the hardware is running at max 50%. First here are the hardware stats: AMD 2800+ XP 1.5 GB RAM Nividia 7600 GT 128 MB 3COM NIC Windows Xp Prof. Max FPS is at 10 and low scenery is chosen ( actually all the vid settings are low ). So after a hour of so the players start to lag. The connection is decent and there is plenty of bandwith left. While the server is lagging the CPU is at ~ 50 %, RAM at 500 MB out of 1500 MB and the vidcard mem is at ~ 20 MB out of 128 MB. So any clues ? Thanks for helping in advance! :D Our Forum Rules: http://forums.eagle.ru/rules.php#en
S77th-konkussion Posted February 3, 2008 Posted February 3, 2008 Connection? (the UPstream is especially important) A typical 1/2 to a 1 MB up is good for maybe... 3-5 clients MAX. Longevity w/o slowdowns would depend on mission content. [sIGPIC]http://forums.eagle.ru/attachment.php?attachmentid=43337&d=1287169113[/sIGPIC]
ED Team Groove Posted February 3, 2008 Author ED Team Posted February 3, 2008 There is enough upstream, but thanks for trying to help me. Our Forum Rules: http://forums.eagle.ru/rules.php#en
TorwaK Posted February 3, 2008 Posted February 3, 2008 even the hardware is running at max 50%. %50 CPU process is a little bit high for dedicated Lock-On server. Is there anything else which is using CPU process? Normally it should be max %25-30. It looks like Lock-On use all memory after some time and windows working on to increase virtual memory size(pagefile.sys). First of all I suggest you to update your mainboard BIOS. After that install the windows with latest drivers. Btw have you changed some settings at BIOS? ED Team Groove Posted February 4, 2008 Author ED Team Posted February 4, 2008 RAM usage is at 30 % when server starts lagging. Its a fresh Win XP Install with just Lockon 1.12 b running. Our Forum Rules: http://forums.eagle.ru/rules.php#en
TorwaK Posted February 4, 2008 Posted February 4, 2008 Can you give me cpu process usage value when lag starts. Also Memory Limit, Peak and total Ram size values. Also right click to my computer and enter properties. Click to advanced tab, performance, settings, advanced. Tell me your pagefile size. The_GOZR Posted February 4, 2008 Posted February 4, 2008 Just by curiosity try to run Lockon on a low priority cpu process. It may fix the problem.
The_GOZR Posted February 4, 2008 Posted February 4, 2008 Should be enough easy for more than 8 guys on your line easy.... you don't make a server run 100% on cpu it will lock up with other services running.. Btw server should be on the map not on cockpit ;)
Joe Kurr Posted February 4, 2008 Posted February 4, 2008 Do you have any lua scripts which are writing data to disk? During last year's LLTM we discovered that having TacView running on the server is a guarantee to get huge amounts of lag, because it records the entire flight to disk. At the start of a mission this isn't noticeable, but the lag gets progressively worse over time. Also check the size of other log files (e.g. error.log) If there is something wrong inside your export.lua, the error log may get quite large, slowing everything down. ED Team Groove Posted February 4, 2008 Author ED Team Posted February 4, 2008 will check and report guys Gozr, server is running on Map. Our Forum Rules: http://forums.eagle.ru/rules.php#en
ED Team Groove Posted February 4, 2008 Author ED Team Posted February 4, 2008 error.log is 7 kB switched CPU prio to low no lua scripts are being written Our Forum Rules: http://forums.eagle.ru/rules.php#en
TorwaK Posted February 5, 2008 Posted February 5, 2008 Just by curiosity try to run Lockon on a low priority cpu process. It may fix the problem. It'll make loss and lag at client side. Don't do that. [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC] Intel Core i7-6700K, @5GHz | Asus Maximus Hero VIII | 2 x eVGA GTX 970 SLI | Kingston Predator 16GB DDR4-3000Mhz | 2 x Samsung 850 PRO 240GB RAID-0 | AOC G2460PG G-SYNC LCD | OCULUS RIFT CV1 VR | THRUSTMASTER HOTAS WARTHOG | CH PRO PEDALS
TorwaK Posted February 5, 2008 Posted February 5, 2008 Memory Limit is 1.5 GB, Peak Usage is around 500 MB Pagefile size is 2000 MB. It looks normal. I need some answers. * Have you changed any BIOS settings or overclocked the server? * Have you checked CPU temperature? What's your CPU model/type and temperature? * Do you use windows with service pack 2 installed? * Which programs working on server except Lock-On? Click to taskbar and go to Task Manager than get a screenshot of PROCESS after run Lock-On. I'd to check it. ED Team Groove Posted February 5, 2008 Author ED Team Posted February 5, 2008 * Have you changed any BIOS settings or overclocked the server? No BIOS settings changed - no CPU overclock * Have you checked CPU temperature? What's your CPU model/type and temperature? CPU Temp @ 50°C, AMD 2800 XP * Do you use windows with service pack 2 installed? Yes * Which programs working on server except Lock-On? Click to taskbar and go to Task Manager than get a screenshot of PROCESS after run Lock-On. I'd to check it. Will post it later __________________ Our Forum Rules: http://forums.eagle.ru/rules.php#en
The_GOZR Posted February 5, 2008 Posted February 5, 2008 It'll make loss and lag at client side .. well explain plz W 2003 is better for server side not XP. SO groove have you tried it?
Joe Kurr Posted February 5, 2008 Posted February 5, 2008 For Lockon it shouldn't make any difference if you're running XP Pro or 2003. I have a dedicated Lockon server here which barely can run the sim, but no lag at all. The only thing I changed in Lockon is the max FPS, I've set it to 5. About lowering the process priority for Lockon: This takes away CPU time from Lockon for other processes. So this may create even more lag, as Lockon has less CPU cycles available. ED Team Groove Posted February 5, 2008 Author ED Team Posted February 5, 2008 Well its still lagging. Strange enough the lags starts when i watch others fly in F2 mode. "Others" can be a tanker for example. Today a US Tanker was lagging like hell while the rest of the game, including another tanker was flying perfectly... I whink i will switch to Intel CPU... The_GOZR Posted February 5, 2008 Posted February 5, 2008 Ho..Hold on.. "watch other with F2".. is the server on the same PC that you are flying on? joe "max FPS" where is this parameter ? Thx
Joe Kurr Posted February 6, 2008 Posted February 6, 2008 GOZR, You need to add this after the last line in graphics.cfg to limit your FPS: MaxFPS = 5; So the end of your graphics.cfg file should look something like this: ObjectFogMultiplier = 0.6; CivilianRoutes = ".\\Bazar\\Routes\\"; AviFolder = "Movies/"; PilotNames = 0; [b]MaxFPS = 5;[/b] Groove, if you're running a dedicated server, just leave it in Theatre view (F10) during the entire mission. This reduces the rendering load significantly, and may get rid of your lag. Dutch Flanker Display Team | LLTM 2010 Tiger Spirit Award
The_GOZR Posted February 6, 2008 Posted February 6, 2008 Kurr is right yes Thx I never knew for this FPS line, which is good to have ..
ED Team Groove Posted February 6, 2008 Author ED Team Posted February 6, 2008 Ho..Hold on.. "watch other with F2".. is the server on the same PC that you are flying on? joe "max FPS" where is this parameter ? Thx No, its not them same PC. Our Forum Rules: http://forums.eagle.ru/rules.php#en
ED Team Groove Posted February 6, 2008 Author ED Team Posted February 6, 2008 yes i did, it didnt helped. i think its some CPU / RAM bandwith issue or something like that Our Forum Rules: http://forums.eagle.ru/rules.php#en
