BMGZ06 Posted June 11, 2020 Posted June 11, 2020 (edited) No lock at all with AIM7 unless in bore sight mode - Track attached Not doing anything different than before the last 2 updates to get locks that I used to be able to get well beyond 60 miles. Please tell me if I am missing something obvious. Just tested the F18 training amraam and no targets show on radar besides the hit triangle and then I still cant lock it up and get any more info on target. If someone else could try this training and confirm. Harker Posted June 11, 2020 Posted June 11, 2020 Did you download the June 11th hotfix? The F-18 broke with the June 10th patch, but ED released a hotfix since. I played a mission where I had both AMRAAMs and AIM-7s, a couple of hours ago, after the hotfix and all worked OK. The vCVW-17 is looking for Hornet and Tomcat pilots and RIOs. BMGZ06 Posted June 11, 2020 Author Posted June 11, 2020 Yes I downloaded it and did a repair. Still nothing works unless in bore sight. Some others have had issues still as well. In this track file it can be seen that depressing the TDC over a target does not lock it up at all no matter the missile variant. Zarma Posted June 11, 2020 Posted June 11, 2020 Strange radar works normally in TWS and STT. Could kill a few F4's with 120s. Motomouse Posted June 12, 2020 Posted June 12, 2020 (edited) This is a F-14 track? No problem using AIM-7 in the F-18 on my box. No problem locking targets with the hotfix. Edited June 12, 2020 by Motomouse VIC-20@1.108 MHz, onboard GPU, 5KB RAM, μυωπία goggles, Competition Pro HOTAS
Motomouse Posted June 12, 2020 Posted June 12, 2020 Perhaps your repair botched the hotfix? What version is shown in your start screen? VIC-20@1.108 MHz, onboard GPU, 5KB RAM, μυωπία goggles, Competition Pro HOTAS
BMGZ06 Posted June 12, 2020 Author Posted June 12, 2020 (edited) Ya i noticed the track got replaced. I tried to upload the track and then the site told me that it was already posted but that one was the f14 track. SO I deleted it from my other thread. THen uploaded what I thought was the f18 track and somehow it ended up still being the F14 track. This makes no sense. No the repair didn't mess up the hotfix. I did the repair because the radar lock was not working. I was just flying with some others and two of them said the radar was not working for them either. The tanker was right in front of them and it was not showing up. I tried updating again several times Edited June 12, 2020 by BMGZ06 System Specs: 13900K, Strix Z790 Gaming E, MSI 4090 Sprim Liquid X OC'd, 64gb Gskill Trident Z DDR5, Samsung 980 PRO M.2 SSD,. BMGZ06 Posted June 12, 2020 Author Posted June 12, 2020 Ok so after going back in and testing in the 4 v 4 mission I saw that for some reason when selecting the AIM7 the radar preset for it is the normal 40 miles and 140 deg scan but the radar altitude scan is stuck pointing straight up instead of being right in the middle like it normally would be. I usually never mess with that at all so I didnt pay attention to it until now. Once I was able to bring the elevation carrot back to the middle the radar works as it should. The questions though is why on earth would it be defaulted to point straight up? I am going to check with the others I fly with to see if that is there issue as well. Motomouse Posted June 12, 2020 Posted June 12, 2020 I started to use the AIM 7 and the ACM modes in addition to the other modes. At least a silver lining to the hazzle of the last patch :-) VIC-20@1.108 MHz, onboard GPU, 5KB RAM, μυωπία goggles, Competition Pro HOTAS
sora_061 Posted June 12, 2020 Posted June 12, 2020 So how is Aim-7 doing? I tried 4v4 hornet 15 times today, AI can't hit anything with Aim 7 literally (they take 27 to face or occasionally get 9M kill). I have to get pretty close 3-5 miles to get kills. 9Ms have much higher PK then 7s. Had to gun them down. Sent from my Redmi K20 Pro using Tapatalk
Motomouse Posted June 12, 2020 Posted June 12, 2020 You have to keep the radar lock until impact, I get kills (not reliable) at longer distances than 5 miles. VIC-20@1.108 MHz, onboard GPU, 5KB RAM, μυωπία goggles, Competition Pro HOTAS
sora_061 Posted June 12, 2020 Posted June 12, 2020 You have to keep the radar lock until impact, I get kills (not reliable) at longer distances than 5 miles.I have been keeping lock in the edge of screen, so I could fire another turning in if it misses. I change my Target size to "SML" and profile from "Loft" to "norm" when I fire second missile, which results in kill (maybe because they are close). I over-dramatified my sentence, I do get kills in longer range than aformentioned. It is very rare. Maybe it's realistic (since AF didn't choose Aim 7 for viper) Sent from my Redmi K20 Pro using Tapatalk

BMGZ06 Posted June 12, 2020 Author Posted June 12, 2020 (edited) Ya fof me I noticed the AIM7 is not as good as before. I fired 4 at one plane at less than 10 and 5 miles and they all missed without even coming close. Perhaps this is the way the real ones act. I just saw this write up bu NAVAIR about it being replaced by AIM-120. https://www.navair.navy.mil/product/Air-Intercept-Missile-AIM-7-Sparrow Some other good info on the history and effectiveness of them http://www.designation-systems.net/dusrm/m-7.html Edited June 12, 2020 by BMGZ06 System Specs: 13900K, Strix Z790 Gaming E, MSI 4090 Sprim Liquid X OC'd, 64gb Gskill Trident Z DDR5, Samsung 980 PRO M.2 SSD,.
