blackcactus Posted June 21, 2020 Posted June 21, 2020 I am helping my friends grandpa to choose better laptop for DCS gaming. He was a Mi8 Pilot. He is now 80 years old and this game is all his live. What is better way 1. AMD ryzen 7 3750H with RTX 2060 6Gb + 16Gb of Ram Or 2. i5 8/9-generation with worse graphic card like Gtx1650 + 16Gb of ram. Ryzen is an weak Processor better than i3 and worse than i5 DCS need more powerful graphic card or Processor?
Eldur Posted June 21, 2020 Posted June 21, 2020 Would be good to know the actual processor model, but I looked up the AMD which goes up to 4GHz. DCS likes high single core clock rates, and it's the most recent generation. Definately nothing wrong getting that one. And the 2060 mobile comes with 6GB of VRAM wheras I read the 1650 mobile is restricted to just 4GB which is pretty tight for DCS. I had lots of issues with my desktop 970 since the VRAM was already full on the absolutely lowest settings. I'm running DCS on an 8yo 3570k overclocked and a 1080 and I'm able to get decent 45fps with medium-highish settings in the Rift unless there's a ton of things happening at the same time. That AMD laptop should roughly be on par with that at least.
blackcactus Posted June 21, 2020 Author Posted June 21, 2020 Now he is playing laptop i7 II-generation (2/4 not QM) and 1GB DDR3 Quadro graphics. Lowest settings. He got ~30FPS I am reading more and more testts and i think that this Ryzen 7 is to week for RTX2060. You cant get RTX 100% in pair with Ryzen 3750H. Better to buy i5+RTX2060 or even better i7+rtx2060

The 3700 series you are looking at is very well obsolete right now in comparision (on mobile laptops). The new 4000 series for laptops are great for games and DCS too. And they tend to be paired with the latest Nvidia cards, better SSDs, Screens, etc., so is the safest bet to go. Edited June 21, 2020 by Leaderface
