bilbosmeggins Posted June 27, 2020 Posted June 27, 2020 Hi all. Using VoiceAttack today and it kept losing focus. I had it pointed at the active window (DCS in VR). It would work for so long, then, at the critical moment, would suddenly stop working. Pausing DCS and looking at the VA window, I could see the commands I had shouted out, and they were all listed as “recognised”. After Alt-TABbing back to DCS it would then behave fine again for a while. It was particularly infuriating because I was practising dive-bombing with the F5, which is tricky at the best of times. I was using, or trying to use, VA to quickly switch to Bomb View, so I could see the results. Any ideas what might be the cause of VA keep losing it’s focus on the active screen of DCS? The only other open window is the Oculus software, which is a necessary evil.
Svsmokey Posted June 27, 2020 Posted June 27, 2020 Is it VoiceAttack losing focus ? Or the well-known problem of DCS losing focus ? VA uses the active window , and when DCS loses focus VA doesn't work ? Many posts regarding DCS losing focus in VR/issues subforum . Fix seems to be moving position of taskbar . 9700k @ stock , Aorus Pro Z390 wifi , 32gb 3200 mhz CL16 , 1tb EVO 970 , MSI RX 6800XT Gaming X TRIO , Seasonic Prime 850w Gold , Coolermaster H500m , Noctua NH-D15S , CH Pro throttle and T50CM2/WarBrD base on Foxxmounts , CH pedals , Reverb G2v2
Greyman Posted June 27, 2020 Posted June 27, 2020 Also, you can specifically state the DCS window as the target for VoiceAttack, instead of the active window.

I kinda figured that by virtue of the fact that I’m able to fly perfectly with the HMD without there seeming to be any hiccups, that DCS was doing its thing properly. If it lost its focus, would I not lose my feed, or does it manifest itself by creating other issues?
bilbosmeggins Posted June 27, 2020 Author Posted June 27, 2020 Also, you can specifically state the DCS window as the target for VoiceAttack, instead of the active window. I’ll try that, and see if it has a positive impact. Thanks :)

The most obvious manifestation is loss of controller inputs . 9700k @ stock , Aorus Pro Z390 wifi , 32gb 3200 mhz CL16 , 1tb EVO 970 , MSI RX 6800XT Gaming X TRIO , Seasonic Prime 850w Gold , Coolermaster H500m , Noctua NH-D15S , CH Pro throttle and T50CM2/WarBrD base on Foxxmounts , CH pedals , Reverb G2v2
bilbosmeggins Posted June 27, 2020 Author Posted June 27, 2020 The most obvious manifestation is loss of controller inputs . That could well be it then, because on the one bombing run, my weapon release button did nothing. So I went straight to the control setup, and the proper joystick button was listed but not registering. I had to clear it, then add it again, and then all was well. I thought that was just a bit of a glitch. Didn’t realise it was a “thing”. Ah, bugger! This is going to be one of those DCS bugs to live with by the looks of things. I’ll try both of the above suggestions, and hope I get lucky. Thanks :)
Greyman Posted June 27, 2020 Posted June 27, 2020 As @Svsmokey said earlier, if your 2d DCS window sits above the windows taskbar, when you use your mouse to change a control, possibly low down in the cockpit, you might inadvertently move the focus away from DCS. McAfee also has a tendency to steal focus, when it gives you one of its countless renewal reminders, about 3 months in advance of expiry. :)

I just use my HOTAS, and one of my Oculus Touch controllers. Are the Touch controllers seen as the mouse somehow? I’ll have a check in the control pages, and make sure I don’t have any buttons triggering the mouse cursor or anything like that. Regarding McAfee, I don’t have any anti-virus software running at all. I’m very select about how I use the PC online, as it’s purely for simming.
