Avilator Posted March 6, 2011 Posted March 6, 2011 AC-119 FTW! I don't want to enter the quiz, if you don't mind, but I've got something that needs your knowledge - as I experienced it, lot of you guys are superior to many other forums, and post more actively. So here it is, what the hello is that spaceinvaders-like panel on the right side? http://mh59.mgszki-kaposvar.hu/users/_lefty/link/100_4573.jpg Just for the record, it's not the C-119, but very close. Could that panel be a radar display? I only respond to that little mechanical voice that says "Terrain! Terrain! Pull Up! Pull Up!" Who can say what is impossible, for the dream of yesterday is the hope of today and the reality of tomorrow. -Robert Goddard "A hybrid. A car for enthusiasts of armpit hair and brown rice." -Jeremy Clarkson "I swear by my pretty floral bonet, I will end you." -Mal from Firefly
Avilator Posted March 14, 2011 Posted March 14, 2011 From Wikipedia: Bump (Internet): returning a thread to the top of the list of active threads (acceptable reasons range from wanting to remind others that the question with which the thread started is still unanswered to offering new information that relates to an old thread; a less agreeable practice—as unwelcome as spam—is to do it simply to raise the thread's profile); the term is related to the concept of "bumping (pushing) something up" though others suggest that it is an acronym for "Bring up my post" (however, "bump" applies to any post in a thread, not just one's own posts) Anyone have any guesses on my quiz? I only respond to that little mechanical voice that says "Terrain! Terrain! Pull Up! Pull Up!" swift Posted May 12, 2011 Posted May 12, 2011 AC119G or C-123 variant ? http://www.atterburybakalarairmuseum.org/more_71st_photos.htm
Namenlos Ein Posted May 12, 2011 Posted May 12, 2011 (edited) AC119G or C-123 variant ? http://www.atterburybakalarairmuseum.org/more_71st_photos.htm You answered Avilator's previous question. Now 59th_LeFty asked about panel No.21401 in Su-25 cockpit. Edited May 13, 2011 by Namenlos Ein
Avilator Posted May 12, 2011 Posted May 12, 2011 C-123 variant ? Ding!Ding!Ding!Ding!Ding! You are correct! I only respond to that little mechanical voice that says "Terrain! Terrain! Namenlos Ein Posted May 13, 2011 Posted May 13, 2011 Could that panel be a radar display? No. This is RWS “Beryoza-A” indicator which was installed on Su-25 airplanes till serial number 02012 (except s/n 01049). http://forums.eagle.ru/showpost.php?p=867159&postcount=2468
swift Posted May 13, 2011 Posted May 13, 2011 Ah interesting, at first seems like a rusty minesweeper for long flights. Looks like an early version of the RWS L-150 Pastel ? (sweet name isn't it)
nscode Posted May 13, 2011 Posted May 13, 2011 Are you sure above picture is Pastel? СПО isn't selected Never forget that World War III was not Cold for most of us.
swift Posted May 13, 2011 Posted May 13, 2011 I thought it was a minesweeper, go figure my expertise on the subject :smartass: Here and there is where I found the pic. what is СПО? any valuable information about TsKBA L-150 Pastel RWR? couldn't find anything.
nscode Posted May 14, 2011 Posted May 14, 2011 Don't know what it stands for exactly, but Beryoza is СПО-15 :) Basicly, RWR. And if you do a google translate on your links, you'll see that "PRG (ПРГ) - head of programming for firing missile radar;" is selected :) So no, no one ever saw Pastel, I think. Never forget that World War III was not Cold for most of us.
swift Posted May 14, 2011 Posted May 14, 2011 Yes you're right, I see what you mean nscode, thanks :) Well, anyone could post a challenge so we can search for the answer and learn a bit in the process? that's the beauty of this thread IMHO.

As you wish. What is the purpose of this helicopter?
swift Posted May 16, 2011 Posted May 16, 2011 (edited) Yak-24K - Purpose: Transport ? Another 1960 prototype was this VIP version. The fuselage was shortened, fitted with even bigger windows, improved soundproofing and heating and an electrically-operated airstairs, and luxuriously furnished for nine passengers. Namenlos Ein Posted May 16, 2011 Posted May 16, 2011 Yak-24K - Purpose: Transport ? You almost there, but it is not the Yak-24K. 1st VIP version. I've asked about this one:
Kaiza Posted May 16, 2011 Posted May 16, 2011 (edited) Is it some kind of Yak 24u variant laying piping? EDIT: or maybe even laying rails http://www.airwar.ru/enc/ch/yak24.html Yak-24T (трубоукладчик) with “Nerpa” («Нерпа») pipelayer, 44x2 100mm pipes on board. It wasn't Yak-24U («Уширенный», widened) variant.

Lucas_From_Hell Posted May 18, 2011 Posted May 18, 2011 CAC CA-15 Kangoroo. :) Don't have any question here so I'll leave it to anyone interested. I'd suggest doing it quickly before Topol posts something. Then you're all screwed. :D
Shnider Posted May 18, 2011 Posted May 18, 2011 CAC CA-15 Kangoroo. :) nice job :) I'll leave the next question for someone else
Namenlos Ein Posted May 18, 2011 Posted May 18, 2011 ? This is the CANT Z.511. Here my last question for a while. Very simple. Name this aircraft. And it should be good if you find the name of her pilot too.
