Got new machine. Win 10. No anti-virus, no defender, nothing but a clean install of win 10 pro. Not sure why I get an access violation when trying to download Open beta.

Attached the log but can't attach the dump.

The Hornet is best at killing things on the ground. Now, if we could just get a GAU-8 in the nose next to the AN/APG-65, a titanium tub around the pilot, and a couple of J-58 engines in the tail...

Thanks, Flappie. I'm new to windows 10 so I THOUGHT it was turned off.

I cannot tell you how much I hate windows 10. I've had it installed before several times and each time, I hated it more and wiped it off the hard drive and reinstalled Windows 7 again. DCS installs very well on Windows 7 since I kill off most of MS bloatware. Unfortunately, I need windows 10 to get Reverb G2 when (if it ever) comes out. :)

I'll try adding the exception to defender. If that doesn't work, I'm going to buy several sticks of (redacted for safety) and blow the hell out of all my computers and take up knitting as a hobby. (Joking, of course.)

No go. Still get the Access Violation error that stops the download. I know it's windblows 10 problem. See? This is why I hate it. I've not got something set right.

Anyway, uninstalled what managed to get started, deleted the download file AND the install directory on C:

Added both the updater AND the whole damned OpenBeta folder to the exceptions list

I zipped the dump file so I could upload it here.

Thanks again Flappie. Win 10 shouldn't have problems with DCS. If it does, at least it should say something in English (or others) just how it got itself so confused. I understand that it doesn't want the updater to do something to a windows location, but WHERE and WHY?

Hopefully, ED will already understand how Win10 is so constipated and can recommend a laxative for it. :)

FYI. There was nothing wrong with DCS. There were several problems with Win 10. But the cause of the crash was the cpu was OC'd to 5.1 GHz which was a bit too much. I backed it off to 4.971 and, so far, is stable. (Yes, it's watercooled.)
