=Mac= Posted August 12, 2020 Posted August 12, 2020 Got new machine. Win 10. No anti-virus, no defender, nothing but a clean install of win 10 pro. Not sure why I get an access violation when trying to download Open beta. Attached the log but can't attach the dump.autoupdate_log.txt The Hornet is best at killing things on the ground. Now, if we could just get a GAU-8 in the nose next to the AN/APG-65, a titanium tub around the pilot, and a couple of J-58 engines in the tail...
Flappie Posted August 12, 2020 Posted August 12, 2020 Hi Mac. I've seen this exact same issue before, here: https://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?t=280556&highlight=RtlCaptureContext2 You say 'no Defender' but Defender is part of W10. You should try adding an exception in it so your main DCS folder is not scanned. ---
=Mac= Posted August 12, 2020 Author Posted August 12, 2020 Thanks, Flappie. I'm new to windows 10 so I THOUGHT it was turned off. I cannot tell you how much I hate windows 10. I've had it installed before several times and each time, I hated it more and wiped it off the hard drive and reinstalled Windows 7 again. DCS installs very well on Windows 7 since I kill off most of MS bloatware. Unfortunately, I need windows 10 to get Reverb G2 when (if it ever) comes out. :) I'll try adding the exception to defender. If that doesn't work, I'm going to buy several sticks of (redacted for safety) and blow the hell out of all my computers and take up knitting as a hobby. (Joking, of course.) The Hornet is best at killing things on the ground. Now, if we could just get a GAU-8 in the nose next to the AN/APG-65, a titanium tub around the pilot, and a couple of J-58 engines in the tail...
=Mac= Posted August 12, 2020 Author Posted August 12, 2020 No go. Still get the Access Violation error that stops the download. I know it's windblows 10 problem. See? This is why I hate it. I've not got something set right. Anyway, uninstalled what managed to get started, deleted the download file AND the install directory on C: Added both the updater AND the whole damned OpenBeta folder to the exceptions list I zipped the dump file so I could upload it here.autoupdate_log.txtDump file.zip The Hornet is best at killing things on the ground. Flappie Posted August 12, 2020 Posted August 12, 2020 I see you've found your way through W10 and Windows Defender. Well done. :) Unfortunately, you still have the same error. I think you should ask for a DCS support ticket. Here's the procedure: https://www.digitalcombatsimulator.com/en/support/faq/710/ ---
=Mac= Posted August 12, 2020 Author Posted August 12, 2020 Thanks again Flappie. Win 10 shouldn't have problems with DCS. If it does, at least it should say something in English (or others) just how it got itself so confused. I understand that it doesn't want the updater to do something to a windows location, but WHERE and WHY? Hopefully, ED will already understand how Win10 is so constipated and can recommend a laxative for it. :) The Hornet is best at killing things on the ground. ED Team c0ff Posted August 14, 2020 ED Team Posted August 14, 2020 I guess it is your ticket in the support. The problem is found and the fix will come out soon for everybody. Dmitry S. Baikov @ Eagle Dynamics LockOn FC2 Soundtrack Remastered out NOW everywhere - https://band.link/LockOnFC2.
=Mac= Posted August 20, 2020 Author Posted August 20, 2020 FYI. There was nothing wrong with DCS. There were several problems with Win 10. But the cause of the crash was the cpu was OC'd to 5.1 GHz which was a bit too much. I backed it off to 4.971 and, so far, is stable. (Yes, it's watercooled.)
