When firing a 530D, the target will get an alert since they detect your radar continuously illuminates it.

But without firing the missile, if I switch from TWS to STT, will it see the same radar pattern and do a missile alert?

This could be useful for making the target go defensive from distances such as 20nm, without wasting a 530D.

No, it will get an hard lock, not a missile warning

Though Ive seen plenty of people online get panicky over just a simple spike:megalol:. Srsly tho what half-decent opponent is gonna go defensive vs a Mirage at 20nm? The MAR for the S530 is nowhere near that far at any alt (unless maybe at like 50k and M2+).

EDIT also attentive pilots will notice the lack of smoke trail as well

A S530D will have a decent Pk when launched at 20 Nm when flying at around 35k around Mach 1+ if bandit is lazy with counter maneuver.

Switching from PID to PIC is (was) used IRL by M2000C pilot to try make opponent react, even at range above 20 Nm. Success depends of the opponent and his knowledge of your systems/weapons.

Yes, if he doesn’t have you on scope, he doesn’t know the range of the spike.

So it's not possible in any radar mode to illuminate as if the missile was launched? Even in SVI?

This could be the only advantage of Fox1 over Fox3, as the plane does the active part, it's theoretically possible to mimic a missile launch.

The tactic of firing a missile to make the ennemy plane go defensive is nice when you have a SPAMRAAM loadout, not with two poor 530Ds :(

And what would you do if that capability came around and then every aircraft and SAM on your RWR gave you a launch warning from every direction without wasting a missile? :)

Suddenly your RWR is partially useless.

BTW, you could mimic all sorts of stuff with any kind of missile ... but IRL you'd probably start creating EMI for your own guys if nothing else.

Reminder: SAM = Speed Bump :D

You don't have to have any advantage. Fox 1s are inferior weapons. You have to learn to avoid Fox 3s, and to anticipate enemy launches before you hear the RWR screaming by looking around for smoke trails and observing how contacts are moving in your radar, because they will probably change direction to do an F-Pole immediately after firing. In general, when you know you're against enemies that are Fox 3 capable, you have to fly defensive and try to sneak around the enemy. The Mirage is not an air superiority airplane and is not meant to do BVR head on with Fox 3 capable airplanes. If you find yourself 1 vs 1 with one of such airplanes, you already made a mistake. I can tell if he's within lethal range or not :). Also don't know why you wouldnt have a mirage at 35kft on your scope/DL.
