[MISSING TRACK FILE] Can't see any units in A/G radar

I was trying to zoom in on some ground units with the A/G radar in standard zoom and EXP1, 2, and 3 but I was not able to see anything. I also tried all the gain levels but no joy. I placed the units for testing purposes on the plain desert ground of the PG map with no landmarks in the vicinity in order to make spotting of the units easy but on the radar scope, there was not the slightest change visible.

I read in the changelogs that there were fixes to the radar signature of various ground units and static objects.

Does that mean, that they are not visible anymore or that they should be visible now?

It was also stated in the release notes that there are still some a/g radar issues in the latest OB. Does that have anything to do with it?

Not being an ass, but were you centering your scan on the piece of ground where you set your targets? It’s easy to misplace a scan sector when you are trying to match it to a small piece of ground in cockpit.

If you are trying to test ground vehicle reflectance, have you considered setting an offset target that is easy to see? Then placing your vehicle selections nearby at an orientation that you cannot misread.

Say a cross pattern of large oil tanks, and maybe ten oil tanks distance to the north, are your vehicles of interest. Then you can judge pickup distances.

Also, what’s your altitude? At low levels, pickups will be closer, but shadows of the object or vehicle is large enough, could stand out due to their lengths.

At higher altitudes, the shadows will be extremely short, or non existent.

Single vehicles at range will be quite a pickup, radar may not actually be able to resolve it from background. And trying to visually see it on your cockpit display would be “interesting”.

So it is possible at all to see, detect and lock ground vehicles with APG-73 now? And how its happen?

Detection - VERY range dependant, but can be resolved to a degree.

Locking - nobody has said that is possible. That being said, under ideal conditions, large vehicles not moving, I have locked up close in, but they must be easy to distinguish from background. Ship targets, again not moving, are easy also.

So how we lock the moving ships then? When cant with AG radar?

Read what I put in #4 slowly to yourself.

When you replied, you already quoted the answer to your question, you just obviously didn’t read it.

A lot of ground vehicles are not visible to the radar at all, at the moment. It's a bug and it will be addressed. Even some vehicles that were visible before, are not visible in the last OB. In short, what you're experiencing is normal (depending on the vehicles, certain vehicles show up fine, for example). WIP

Currently I can pick up planes of any size and helos. I used static ones for the test.

Let's just say it's not a sensor of choice for me as it is now (if ever)

On top of that I use original mini trackball on my Warthog (with really dumbed down axes and a huge dead zone) and it doesn't work the way it worked in the other sim. Yea, I know, different radar model. Even if the TDC worked perfectly... the resolution of the image would not be sufficient for any definite ID, unless you already know what's supposed be there and just want to see the return on the scope.

Here's a brief vid I posted in controller forum bitching about the track ball:mad:

Thanks for the clarification and the link to the thread that handles this topic in a much greater detail.

Even if it doesn't matter for me personally anymore, because I have received the information I was looking for. I think it would make sense to delete the "cannot reproduce" tag from the post since it's acknowledged in the thread that it is indeed a bug. Maybe it is of help for others that, like me, didn't use the right words when searching for an answer to find the other thread mentioned above.

Hi

generally we ask for track replays to show the issue directly, it is much easier to reproduce an issue when we see what you are seeing.

I am happy to check the issue as I have done in the other thread once new information is available

Agreed. Should have "REPORTED" tag and be moved to the bugs section.

No need, issue has already been reported elsewhere as indicated earlier in the thread.

Yes, I know, I didn't do it here because the changelog mentioned already known issues in this regard. But I was about to create exactly that after I noticed the changed topic. At the same time, a link to a thread has been posted that shows the issue in a much more detailed way than I would have done it.

But thanks anyway for updating the thread, next time I will provide the trackfile right away.
