Hardware choices

Hi all

 

Making the jump to VR.

 

Been looking on the mighty bay for a few bits but as I’m a bit of a noob it’s a bit of a mine field.

 

Questions I have are

 

Does it really matter what make of 1080 ti I buy?

Does it matter what make of memory card I buy?

As long as I’m running an i5 8600k does the mother board matter as long as it’s compatible?

 

I’m checking compatibility on pc parts picker as I go to check it will all work.

 

I’m happy to be corrected on any of my choices, just don’t have a massive budget so trying to be a bit of a tight arse without shooting myself in the foot.

 

I’m only playing casually but can’t resist the lure of VR.

I don't think this is the right time to buy a 1080 Ti if you can wait a few weeks for an RTX 3070 or an RTX 3080.

 

 

Your motherboard does matter for Intel CPUs, it should support XMP Profiles for memory "overclocking", so you don't just run your memory at 2133Mhz, but at it's actual speed of maybe 3200Mhz or more. That does make a difference for DCS.

Do not buy NVIDIA 10 or 20 series, they’ll become obsolete very soon. Go for the RTX 30 series, much better bang for the bucks.

Stiggie, a good technique is to go your favourite e-retailer like Newegg and crowd source the brands. See how many reviews and such they got when the 1080ti's were hot stuff. Then find the one you want on the bay.
