[NEED TRACK]Landing the F-16 with TPOD in A-A mode will cause frames to drop to 0

Recommended Posts

Steps to reproduce:

- Take an F-16 with TPOD (hot started even in the air)

- turn on Tpod to A-A

- extend gear and try to land (i tried it on runway 23 in Incirlik)

Frames will plummet until you are at a frozen screen.

is it just on Syria map?

Haven't tried it anywhere else for now. I specified runway and Airport just because it's a defect in any case. :-)

Your PC is having issues loading stuff in the distance...probably

In AA mode the TGP will look straight ahead, so during landing it will point towards the sky. Nothing to see or load up there, so performance stays good.

When the nose comes down and the TGP is looking at the ground, everything within 40 miles needs to be loaded in for the TGP. Until the loading is complete DCS will freeze, or 'lag' as many people like to call it.

DCS and your swap file should be on an SSD and you want at least 16gigs of RAM. Even then too high settings can fill up your memory, resulting in noticable performance drop when anything needs to be loaded in.

I have no trouble using the TPOD in A2G mode with snowplow, or other modes.

I have 32 GB of RAM, whole system is on SSD.

My wingman had the same problems, and only when landing with TPOD in A-A as well.

I tested Incirlik 23 and Beirut 03 and the only stuttering I had was during my turn to final as the TGP swept across the horizon. I only have 16gb RAM and relatively high settings, so that's to be expected.

However, final approach and touch down were perfectly smooth, even when looking straight at the city of Beirut.

Only (probably unrelated) freeze I got was after landing when I received a text only message from ATC and it didn't even last a second.

Maybe you and your friend need to revise your graphics settings for Syria. If my 'potato PC' can handle it I don't know what else it's supposed to be.

And just for completeness my testing setup:

Singleplayer, air start on downwind, TGP active on the right MFD and in A-A, NAV master mode, default time/weather, no mods.

How about a defect?

I could only manage by now to upload the video of the occurance of my wingman. When he tried for a second time and landed the game actually went to 0 fps and he had to force close it.

As you can see it's clearly not "natural" stutter.

I will try to recreate it when I have the time, however I thought it might be wise to report it first thing. I am a bit displeased with being told twice that it's most likely my PC or something when it has occured on two very different PCs at the same time.

And I'm a bit displeased by the fact that you haven't mention VR anywhere! doh.gif

I was testing on a flat screen because it's what I and most other people use. Since I couldn't replicate the issue I had to speculate and I've indeed seen different PCs having similar sounding issues before. People who can't properly tweak their settings are actually fairly common (just look at the constant complains about 'lag' on AO)

Had you mentioned VR (or at least provided the video from the start) I wouldn't even bothered testing, because it might very well be a VR exclusive issue. It wouldn't be the first one in the Viper I hear about.

So, maybe you want to add some details like the HMD used, the GPU and driver version, maybe some system specs. VR is still young and those things might be good to know.

more information = less speculation

I don't fly in VR. As mentioned this is the recording of my wingman who encountered the same problem.

Seriously, why didn't you mention that from the start?

You want help, but you're not providing any useful information. All we know is that two people are experiencing massive FPS drops under the given circumstances. One is in VR, the other isn't. The one without has 32gb of RAM.

This is not enough to work with and it took an entire page to even get this far.

Please provide all useful information and don't make us ask for everything. It may speed up the process and there will be a lot less speculation.

thanks

I'll try to get it to show again. Will provide the track then.

Are you with ED? Because I want to know if you're just mouthing off at a customer for the way they essentially provide free quality testing.

Or if you're a fellow virtual pilot. If so, dear colleague, start showing a bit more gratitude for me posting bugs, which I have done throughout the last year however desperate things looked.

Something that you profit from as well.

So respectfully: if you have nothing to do but question my bug report and giving me a harsh time, don't bother posting and take out your frustration someplace else.

Thanks.

Hi,

I am the wingman in question. I wil see if I can dig up the track file..

I am running an HP reverb hmd on a ryzen 3700x, 32gb of ram and a 2080ti with everything installed on SSD storage.i think that should be sufficient. I have been flying and tweaking in vr for over a year so I dont think the issue lays there. I have landed at the mentioned runway regulary sindce the map was release and only had this issue the one time (haven't tried to reproduce it after that) . Just going through what might have been different from before we came to the tgp thing. I kept it on and my dcs grinded to a halt Just before touchdown, exactly the Same as had happens the first approach when I eventually did a go around. While deadpool went for second go around he turned off his tgp during that go around and hé was able to land normally after that.

I Will try to add my track file tomorrow but as I had to force quit I don't know it Will be usefull...
