Prelude Posted September 13, 2020 Posted September 13, 2020 Hey all, just wondering if there is a quick method of confirming what you're locked on to in ACM mode. I'm aware of the SA page and being able to TUC a HAFU to interrogate it's IFF, and I'm aware of LTWS and NCTR on the radar display. My problem is specifically in ACM/BFM when you have about 0.5 seconds to look down at your DDIs and it's impossible to take the time to try an NCTR print, and the SA page is jumbled with friendly and hostile HAFUs all in the same spot (even when zoomed in) What I was hoping to find is somewhere that immediately displays available IFF info about a target you've just locked on to, without having to try to correllate your lock with the SA page and pinpoint that target with your TDC, all while trying not to die in a furball. I believe the F15 has an IFF indication right on the HUD of your current lock, not sure if the F18 has anything similar
Swift. Posted September 13, 2020 Posted September 13, 2020 F18 does have a HUD indication, basically Box = no shoot and Diamond = shoot (its a bit more complicated, but that's the idea). However, when you are that close, the best IFF you have is the mk1 eyeball. Look at the aircraft and determine what it is and whether that model and livery are friendly or not. 476th Discord | 476th Website | Swift Youtube Ryzen 5800x, RTX 4070ti, 64GB, Quest 2
Prelude Posted September 13, 2020 Author Posted September 13, 2020 That's what I was afraid of. That box is sketchy at best. Thanks for the reply
Harker Posted September 13, 2020 Posted September 13, 2020 You can manually run an IFF interrogation on your STT'd target (including if you locked it with ACM modes) with SCS Depress. If you have other Link 16 donors that ID'd the target as hostile, then it'll be marked hostile and you'll get a diamond box with a small triangle at the top, on your HUD. The small triangle shows the Link 16 contribution part. If it's friendly, it'll be marked with a square box and a small semicircle above it. If you don't have contributors and end up in a dogfight with an unknown, you can still run an IFF check for good measure and then either visually ID the target or try to get an NCTR print on them, but the letter is going to be difficult, considering the aspects that come into play in ACM.
