smuj70 Posted April 26, 2008 Posted April 26, 2008 Hi I am at the end of my tether trying to get LO FC working on my new vista64 PC. Have been at this for about a month now scouring the forums. I can get LO1.1 working (as long as full screen is switchd of within LO) but when ever I try to overlay FC, the game will not start. I get a runtime error. I have tried installing 1.12b patch installing the latest starforce drivers running as admin running in XP emulation turning off UAC starting using the lockon.bat ..and more. Is this game just too old to run on modern hardware. My system is Q6600 8800gt (have upgraded to latest drivers, but no joy) 4Gb RAM asus extreme2 MB triplehead2go Please help. I am going insane. I would let it go if there was another decent modern combat game out there. cheers in advance smuj70
Boberro Posted April 26, 2008 Posted April 26, 2008 Try search I think I saw more guys who have problems under Vista. :) Reminder: Fighter pilots make movies. Bomber pilots make... HISTORY! :D | Also to be remembered: FRENCH TANKS HAVE ONE GEAR FORWARD AND FIVE BACKWARD :D ಠ_ಠ ツ
smuj70 Posted April 26, 2008 Author Posted April 26, 2008 thanks for that but I have been searching for a long time now. It is an Evolved issued GOLD CD. Could that be the cause of the issue? The last thing that I see is the Starforce window 'checking disc' and then the runtime error (accompanied by the LO sound effects coming on). All very irritating!!!!!!!!
Kuky Posted April 26, 2008 Posted April 26, 2008 The game v1.12B will work for me when I tried Vista 64 but the sound was buggy. Rhen Posted April 26, 2008 Posted April 26, 2008 I've been running LLOFC v1.12b on Vista64 for a while now. Here's what I recommend: 1) Install to the root directory - not to c:\Program Files (x86)\Ubisoft...\Lock On - but directly to c:\Lock On 2) Run the Lock On Flaming Cliffs patch/cd & then install 1.12b which has the Starforce drivers for Vista, so there's no need to install any other Starforce patches 3) Before you run Lock On for the first time, start TrackIR, if you have it. 4) Start your communications program in administrator mode, so you'll be able to use your key bindings while in Lock On. Otherwise you might have intermittent lost comms where you'll be unable to transmit, but receiving will be unaffected. 5) Then, right click on the desktop icon for Lock On, hit the compatibility tab and select "Run this program in compatibility mode for Windows XP (Service Pack 2)" and check the box for "Disable desktop composition." Disabling desktop composition will disable Aero and increase frame rates in the game. I've found that you don't have to run it as administrator when doing this. 6)If you have a Creative Labs Soundblaster card, like the X-FI or Audigy, then get Alchemy, which will prevent you from having loud engine sounds upon starting your engines. 7)If you have troubles with TrackIR not responding then delete the TrackIR files in the \input and \config directories in Lock On. Hope this helps
Kuky Posted April 26, 2008 Posted April 26, 2008 6)If you have a Creative Labs Soundblaster card, like the X-FI or Audigy, then get Alchemy, which will prevent you from having loud engine sounds upon starting your engines. See I cannot understand that someone who has a really good sound card such as X-Fi to, because of Vista, have to get worse sound card in order not to have this sound bug?! I tried motherboard onboard sound and the sound was still buggy. I absolutely regret buying Vista. 1 PC specs: Windows 11 Home | Asus TUF Gaming B850-Plus WiFi | AMD Ryzen 7 9800X3D + LC 360 AIO | MSI RTX 5090 LC 360 AIO | 55" Samsung Odyssey Gen 2 | 64GB PC5-48000 DDR5 | 1TB M2 SSD for OS | 2TB M2 SSD for DCS | NZXT C1000 Gold ATX 3.1 1000W | TM Cougar Throttle, Floor Mounted MongoosT-50 Grip on TM Cougar board, MFG Crosswind, Track IR
RvEYoda Posted April 26, 2008 Posted April 26, 2008 its funny, MS is not even selling Vista very well, I think they've given up on it, since they next year most likely will release a new OS ;) or like MS' new "open" document standard. Once they purchased (yes purchased) all votes to make it the ISO standard, then they kill that only open standard by not following it themselves XD 1 S = SPARSE(m,n) abbreviates SPARSE([],[],[],m,n,0). This generates the ultimate sparse matrix, an m-by-n all zero matrix. - Matlab help on 'sparse'

smuj70 Posted April 26, 2008 Author Posted April 26, 2008 thanks for that Rhen, I will give it a go. Am curious as to the reason for the c/ location? smuj70
Rhen Posted April 26, 2008 Posted April 26, 2008 Putting Lock On into a root directory does two things under Vista64: First, whenever you install a program in Vista64, it assumes you are a hamfist that will pork things up, so any time you install to the default directories of C:\Program Files, or C:\Program Files (x86), whenever you make changes to a file in these directories, Vista64 "protects" you by making a duplicate file with your changes in a directory in your user folder: For example C:\Users\smuj70\AppData\Local\VirtualStore\Program Files (x86)\Ubisoft\Eagle Dynamics\Lock On\Config\graphics.cfg This is where changes are saved whenever you make changes to your monitor's aspect ratio in Lock On. That's why changing the file manually using notepad never seems to work for some. When you install in a root directory, all this is bypassed & any changes you make to any files within Lock On work. Secondly, programs like ModMan will work appropriately with Lock On & you'll be able to install & uninstall modifications to the game easier.
smuj70 Posted April 27, 2008 Author Posted April 27, 2008 well, progress of sorts but it may be another 10 years before it works properly. Turned UAC off, restarted then managed to start FC through the .bat file. Took the SU25 for a spin then, after about a minute the whole app starts minimizing to the desktop. Can raise it for about a second, then it minimises again. Keeps doing it, not even enough time to get to the QUIT button so I have to Task Manager to exit. Just rubbish. I know that I can turn full screen off, but I want to drop the resolution slightly to increase the performance (it chokes slightly on the full 3840 triple screen res). So how do I drop the res and still make it fill the screen...'Use fullscreen' I hear you say. But that just minimises to the desktop. AAAggghhhh. This is a brand new install of Vista64 so there shouldnt be any rogue processes interupting. I did not think that getting LO functioning was going to be my life's work. smudger
VIKBELL Posted May 7, 2008 Posted May 7, 2008 Rhen what if you dont start the tracker first will it work later. I keep having problems with my tracker not working. VIKBELL Posted May 22, 2008 Posted May 22, 2008 With help from Stickman the problem has been solved on my end for now I waited a week to see if it would stay working correctly. Here what I found works for Vista 32 premiuem LOCK ON 1.12B: 1. Make sure both game and IR tracker is in Admin mode. 2. Check the C:LockOn Config folder and remove the IR tracker page. It is replaced each time you run the game. 3. Now check the View folder and look in the LUA VIEW I found that some how my cockpit mouse was reading false. Change to true and save the page. 4. Go to Input files and remove the IR traker config file to the trash however dont delete this file until you are sure everything works correctly. 5. GO to English Version and remove the IR tracker there to the trash. 6. start everything up make sure you are running the game in Admin and everything should work. If so you might try to put the INPUT File IR config back to see if any thing changes. Still have a problem with finding a button that I can program the Team Speak PTT button. I usally use right alt but it will no work when I am in game. Found I have to use the voice activated. But at least I am able to be shot down at regualar interverals. Thank you stickman for your time and your help. There are 2 categories of fighter pilots: those who have performed, and those who someday will perform, a magnificent defensive break turn toward a bug on the canopy.
