Spit40 Posted October 24, 2020 Posted October 24, 2020 Anyone interested in some authentic flight controls for a Spit MkIX and, in time, other aircraft? I've started this project which will hopefully build into a community over time. Its primarily a VR thing and I'm focussing on the main tactile flight controls like spade/stick, throttle quadrant, elevator trim. Also flaps and landing gear - I love the action on that simple control. PointCtrl can handle the rest. I've developed a range of modular components that make it easy to build compatible products that go into a universal control hub. Self-Build Kit for Non-Engineers This is a self-build kit and you need to 3d print the plastic. All the rest is cheap commodity stuff like bearing, magnets & hall sensors you buy off ebay and Amazon. It's not really a project for engineers - i'm building it for people who are game to assemble an Ikea wardrobe. Beta Testing soon Before I upload everything to Thingiverse I'll be looking to beta test with some people who know what they want. There is no reason this stuff should not feel as good as proper commercial gear and that's my aim. Let me know if you're interested. Flight Stick first Here's a render of the flight stick at the current stage of development as well as an early version I took down to Goodwood to compare against their MkIX simulator. Also how it looks with a dev. version of the throttle quadrant (landing gear lying on the floor) More info here: AuthentiKit.Org 2
Sokol1_br Posted October 25, 2020 Posted October 25, 2020 Spit40 I suggest post this in https://il2sturmovik.com/ and https://theairtacticalassaultgroup.com/, I guess that will catch more interest than here, seems that people interest in Spitfire chill a bit (as happens to me). If want I can post for you in that forums. What the height of this stick? What kind of mount is require, deskmount like Mostertech, VirPil, VKB?

Yes if you'd repost for me that would be awesome. The spade/top angle bracket is to scale. The main body is 20cm or so, but that doesn't matter so much - see this video I uploaded for how it mounts. The video is over a year old and things have evolved a bit but it shows the rig system pretty well.
Lt_Jaeger Posted October 26, 2020 Posted October 26, 2020 Looking interesting. Will follow and see what gets going on. I might be interesting for the German irons (Fw / Bf) Gesendet von meinem LYA-L29 mit Tapatalk

The most iconic? BF 109 or FW 190?
Lt_Jaeger Posted October 26, 2020 Posted October 26, 2020 For me the answer would be easy .... 109 all the way. As @Sokol1_br already suggested I would also start in the IL-2 community, witch would lead to different setups for the 109 allone ... which at least on style would fit our K-4 and you would be ready for the E, F and G :music_whistling: 1
Sokol1_br Posted October 26, 2020 Posted October 26, 2020 Thanks. I was talking about that only yesterday with a pal. Which one would I start with? The most iconic? BF 109 or FW 190? Grip used in Bf 109 and Fw 190 is basically the same KG-12B or KG-13B (the difference in number is due the manufacturer). Bf 109 throttle is a bit awkward, a little know inclined in wrong direction, Fw 190 throttle has better ergonomics and usability, unless the 1945 models, simplified to speed manufacturer. Just make a "replica" of this controls is not the best approach, they will be used in games, that even trying mimic real planes has difference in operation. For example, for make an KG-12/13 really useful is need install a button commanded by the flip up/down the trigger, for send command for planes that has this correct modeled, e.g. DCS Bf 109 K, MiG-15. For Fw 190 D-9 was used the "gamey" approach of IL-2 GB with trigger moving like a snake tong. In Spitfire spade grip the camera button can be a 5 way switch. 1
Spitty Posted October 28, 2020 Posted October 28, 2020 The early 109 throttle was a lot simpler in design than the standard type seen.
Spit40 Posted December 14, 2020 Author Posted December 14, 2020 (edited) This project is now live. Here's an unboxing and a quick flight in a dev version of an MSFS IX Edited December 14, 2020 by Spit40
Spit40 Posted December 25, 2020 Author Posted December 25, 2020 Final video in the Fighter stick series is now out.
davidjb Posted January 1, 2021 Posted January 1, 2021 Printed and built one of these over the last few weeks . Very straightforward. It has improved my ground handling of the Spit immeasurably . Just wondering if this approach may be useful for the throttle for the upcoming Mossie? 1
CptTangerine Posted March 15, 2021 Posted March 15, 2021 Does anyone know of a someone who would print this for a reasonable price? I don't have the money, the patience and especially the space for a 3D printer but I would like to be able to do this as a project. I'm in the UK. Cheers! Spit40 Posted March 16, 2021 Author Posted March 16, 2021 Also Reuben at SimKitSupplies has been contacting the various people offering print services on Discord and sounding them out about their experience, facilities and generally checking up on how they'd approach the job with a view to being able to make introductions for people who ask him. https://www.simkitsupplies.com/fullkit/
CptTangerine Posted March 16, 2021 Posted March 16, 2021 Thanks. I'm slowly leaning towards buying a 3D printer. There's one for about £230. It seems if I'm going to spend that sort of money anyway, might as well have a printer as well (not that I know where I'm going to store the thing). Would a 220mm x 220mm plate be large enough to print the items for this stick? Cheers! Jump on the Discord group and ask for people's opinions who have that printer. A few of them will.https://discord.gg/w7NWwevj
