Automating Radio Actions

Hello again.

 

Is there a way within the ME to trigger radio actions? I have been able to trigger bringing up the Comms menu at the start of a mission, but I'd also like to trigger keystrokes thereafter.

 

For example, if flying in VR and approaching a carrier at night, you need to make the radio call to get them to turn the lights on. The sequence for this on the keyboard would be: Comms Menu, F5, F1, F1, F3.

 

So, I can automate the first part - bringing up the comms menu at mission start - but then when I go to automate F5, it switches the view as is pressing F5, rather than triggering the radio command which is associated with F5 at that point.

 

Is this possible using the ME or do I need to learn some lua script?

 

I've tried it using Voice Attack and a voice trigger will do it - but a button press on a HOTAS does not seem to work, although VA does detect the button whilst setting up the automation, just not whilst flying the mission.

In VA you have at least:

 

Option 1: Make a voice commands that presses the appropriate F-Keys.

 

Option 2: Make sure your hotas is seen as a controller by VA and map a macro to a button.

 

I personally go for option 1.

Yes, I have the VA working - but - and I omitted to mention this - the flaw in that is that this only responds to my voice. I am looking at a commercial application for DCS and so it needs to work for others too, hence the scripting/ME work. VA also recognises a button when testing it, but when flying it, it doesn't pick it up for some reason.
