stiggie
Hi all, Moving to a VR setup. Ideas please. Thoughts so far, ASUS DUAL RTX 3070 8GB, £560 Ryzen 5 3600 £180 Noctua NH-D15 cooler £80 MSI B450 Tomahawk Max £100 Last thing is memory, mainly playing SP so do I need more than 16GB? Was looking at the Patriot Viper Steel 16GB (2x8GB) 3600MHz DDR4 £75 Total so far £995 ish. I really have no Idea what I am doing, just trying to piece things together. Thanks all S
LucShep
Not bad at all, though I would recommend considering some things: 1) For the graphics card, recommend waiting for the upcoming AMD RX6800 16GB (out in November 18th) and go for that instead of the Nvidia RTX3070 8GB, both similarly priced. DCS can eat upwards of 10GB VRAM (especially in VR), so that's definitely an important aspect to consider if investing. 2) You're overspending on the CPU cooler, the Noctua NH-D15 for the Ryzen 5 3600 is way, waaaaay overkill for it. A CM Hyper 212 Black Edition goes for 30 bucks (less than 1/3 of the Noctuas price!) and that's all that processor will ever need, even if overclocking it. 3) For the RAM (memory), go for a 32GB kit (2x 16GB) as DCS can eat upwards of 16GB on very complex busy misions, especially online. I'd go for Crucial Ballistix, and specifically either the BL2K16G32C16U4R (red) or BL2K16G32C16U4B (black), which are 32GB DDR4 3200MHz CL16 kits. This is quality memory at affordable prices, compatible with pretty much all modern chipset motherboards (of both AMD and Intel). And as if that wasn't good on itself, this is Micron E-die guaranteed to be good for OC'ing (manual tweaking for even tighter timings and higher speeds) while being far more affordable than the (ultra expensive) Samsung B-die kits. 4) If money gets really tight in the end, as last resort you can still shave a little by going for the MSI B450-A Pro MAX motherboard, which uses the same robust VRM solution as the B450 Tomahawk MAX that you've chosen (and very well). Do note that this is a very barebones motherboard, so it does loose features when compared to the bigger brother. But it's still a reliable motherboard and may allow saving around 40 bucks. Leaderface
CPU: Go for a 5600X (and stick with the integrated cooler) Memory: look for CL 14 2x16 modules (or even 4x 8 Gb kits) VR Headset?, because it will determine your GPU a lot.
