Porkins Posted November 21, 2020 Posted November 21, 2020 Had a really tough time finding reference photos. Maybe my google fu is garbage. Anyways... WIP on Full Scale Development Hornets from #2 - #9. So, don't feel bad about criticizing if you have helpful hints. Sadly, done in the commonly available non-super high rez template.
ST0RM Posted November 23, 2020 Posted November 23, 2020 Love them! The FSD schemed jets were always sharp. Cant wait to fly one. I was always partial to #6 I'd hope one day we'd get an unpainted primer jet.
MPalmer Posted November 25, 2020 Posted November 25, 2020 Cool project... Porkins Posted November 25, 2020 Author Posted November 25, 2020 Thanks for the link and the pic. So far, working on 2-9. A note on the liveries is, apparently they repainted them often during the life / testing. Honestly, I had to pick a scheme based on one or two pics. Some might end up an amalgum. Thinking of doing #1 and the first "pilot" plane, too. Side note, this first production model was the one that flew 1,200 nautical mile u refueled round trip from Patuxent NAS to Pinecastle range to put to rest complaints of limited range. Payload was three bags, four mk83, sidewinders, FLIR pods.
Porkins Posted November 25, 2020 Author Posted November 25, 2020 Here's a couple screens. DCS is amazing right out of the box, honestly. I remember salivating over Lock On before it was released. Who knew DCS would grow out of it? FSD 9 is the original "military colors" paint job, sans bort numbers and even, it appears, FSD number. BuNo 161248 was the one that flew the the 1,200 nautical mile demo. I'm going to pore over those pics linked, MPalmer.
MPalmer Posted November 25, 2020 Posted November 25, 2020 Here's 2 articles I came across...the Hornet Article was for plastic modeller's. Here's a pic ran across for FSD#6...might be of interest F-18 Hornet Article_pnt.pdfapp1-3.pdf 1 Marvin "Cactus" Palmer DCS:World 2.5(ob) Gigabyte Z390 Designare i7-9700K (4.6GHz), 32Gb RAM (3600MHz), GTX2070, 40" 1080p Monitor, TM Warthog, Saitek Rudder pedals,TM Cougar MFD, and an ipad.

Porkins Posted November 26, 2020 Author Posted November 26, 2020 Someone stop me. I'm having too much fun. FSD No6 and the first low vis paint job FSD No 9. I don't have quite enough pics of No 9. I haven't added the parachute '18s on the FSD 6 yet. And as always, if you have info on these FSD aircraft, speak up. It's hard getting images of them.
MPalmer Posted November 26, 2020 Posted November 26, 2020 Outstanding work Porkins! 1 Marvin "Cactus" Palmer DCS:World 2.5(ob) Gigabyte Z390 Designare i7-9700K (4.6GHz), 32Gb RAM (3600MHz), GTX2070, 40" 1080p Monitor, TM Warthog, Saitek Rudder pedals,TM Cougar MFD, and an ipad.
Porkins Posted November 27, 2020 Author Posted November 27, 2020 Outstanding work Porkins! Thanks. More coming. Just polish and in game glamor shots.
Porkins Posted November 29, 2020 Author Posted November 29, 2020 So, this project is finally coming together. Here's #2-#9. In addition, I've done the BuNo 161248 which was the first pilot production model that did a lot of cool stuff in showing the 18 was indeed worthy. Some still disagree today. LOL.
Porkins Posted November 29, 2020 Author Posted November 29, 2020 And here's some in game screens. For some, it will be eternally boring. For others, it will be flash back to their childhood.
