MarcT-NL Posted December 4, 2020 Posted December 4, 2020 Not sure if this has been asked before, but the AGM-88D doesn't give you a clue if you are in firing range. No idea how this is in RL, but it should be on the whishlist nevertheless
med-taha Posted December 4, 2020 Posted December 4, 2020 Once we get Pre-briefed mode for the HARM . You will get « IN Range » hud indication 1
Bunny Clark Posted December 4, 2020 Posted December 4, 2020 In TOO and SP modes, the HARM can't distinguish range to target as it's a passive only seeker. You need to make a judgement based on your speed, altitude, and depression angle to target. 1 Oil In The Water Hornet Campaign. DD_Fenrir Posted December 4, 2020 Posted December 4, 2020 (edited) Rough rule of thumb: if HARM TOO TD box is at 9° below the horizon then the range in nm = your altitude in 1,000s of feet. E.g.: Angels 20, range = 20nm (depression angle 9°) Angels 25, range = 25nm (depression angle 9°) Angels 30, range = 30nm (depression angle 9°) If the depression Angle is <9° the target is further away than the corresponding altitude/1000 If the depression Angle is >9° the target is closer than the corresponding altitude/1000 Edited December 4, 2020 by DD_Fenrir 2 1
Jak525 Posted December 6, 2020 Posted December 6, 2020 The HARM Pre-Briefed (PB) mode will provide range-informed guidance, yes. It has similar basic symbology to AUTO mode for conventional/laser guided bombs, with a release cue and azimuth steering line, among other functions.
