Alexrey Posted May 28, 2008 Posted May 28, 2008 What usually happens is that I fire a missile at the bandit and go defensive, since the bandit also fired a missile at me. Once I've evaded the incoming missile and turn back into the fight I'm pretty much blind. I try using the RWR but, in the case of the F-15C (and to a certain extent the other fighters), it's weird and doesn't seem to accurately show me where exactly the bandit is. What happens is that I turn back into the fight and carry on turning until the RWR shows me that the bandit is on my 12 o' clock. I then level out, BUT once I'm level the RWR suddenly shows me that the bandit is now on my 3/9 o' clock! I carry on trying to put the bandit on my 12 but once I'm level again the same thing happens... While I'm doing this I don't have much time to concentrate on what's going on outside, plus the visibility is so sh*t that I don't have a hope in hell of spotting the bandit so I stick to using the RWR, and eventually a heat-seeker hits me. Does anyone know what I'm doing wrong (yes I know I should be looking out for incoming heaters, but I don't want him to make the first move) and why, when I turn, does the RWR say the bandit is on my 12, but when I level out it then says the bandit is on my 3/9? Help would really be appreciated, thanks guys. :helpsmilie:

GGTharos Posted May 28, 2008 Posted May 28, 2008 The RWR is not gyro-stabilized. Is always shows the threat with respect to the plane of your wings, not with respect to the plane of the earth. This isn't realistic, but it's what we have. Therefore, learn how long it takes to turn 30/60/90 deg, and just get his bearing, rolled out BEFORE the turn. Don't stare at the RWR to bring him in front of you, just use it to find out where he is initially and turn to that bearing. You want better SA? Learn to PULL YOUR HEAD OUT OF THE COCKPIT! ;) And get a bigger monitor. Primarily practice, but the latter is also a bit of a must. RvEYoda Posted May 28, 2008 Posted May 28, 2008 big monitor is very good advice :). Practice, Practice, Practice, Practice, Practice, Practice, Practice, Practice, Watch the missile with labels on to watch their path through space (but do not dodge them with labels unless it's pure energy dodge) Observer missile launches and learn to see the flashes that show when a missile is launched. I NEVER see a mig-29 visually for example outside 2 nm, but, missiles are ridiculously easy to spot in comparison. S = SPARSE(m,n) abbreviates SPARSE([],[],[],m,n,0). This generates the ultimate sparse matrix, an m-by-n all zero matrix. - Matlab help on 'sparse'
Vekkinho Posted May 28, 2008 Posted May 28, 2008 So what's the advised monitor size?! [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC]
Vekkinho Posted May 28, 2008 Posted May 28, 2008 I assume it 19" for 4:3 ratio, right?! I think of 24" widescreen (16:9) so does anyone run LOFC 1.12a on this size and is it far better than 4:3 on a 19"?! Sorry for OT! [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC]

RedTiger Posted May 28, 2008 Posted May 28, 2008 A bigger monitor goes a long way, believe me. I was running LOMAC at 1074x768 on a 19" CRT. I stepped up to a 22" LCD at 1680x1050 with a really fast refresh time (2ms). The difference really is striking. Other than this, there is only practice. Unless you fight this fight on a daily basis, you may find that you lose your SA quicker. In that case, don't feel too bad about deciding to turn tail and run to regroup if you find yourself to sh*t out of luck.

Help would really be appreciated, thanks guys. :helpsmilie: some tips: Simple one: before defending take a quick look at your current heading(reflex) when u want recommitt few seconds later the bandit should have stayed nearby this heading HOT, Flanking or Cold. the RWR signal specially the F15 one shows this little problem, but this issue stoped once u level the wings to level flight. last , i advise you to turn on your radar for 60° opening , slews it to the side u want to recommitt at and prepare ur finger for 3 degres elevation scan while turning at CORNER SPEED and trying to get a tally on visual preventing an EOS deadly pursuit :D Situational Awareness: https://sa-sim.com/ | The Air Combat Dojo: https://discord.gg/Rz77eFj
