Guest Posted December 17, 2020 Posted December 17, 2020 AG radar works ok initially after selecting it: After marking a spot to target and pressing EXP 1 button to zoom in there is a black fan shape around the target marker: Moving the radar antenna elevation to different positions does not remove this shape. The DCS version is open beta v2.5.6.58125. Are there radar settings that will remove the black fan shape from the target area?
Snakedoc Posted December 17, 2020 Posted December 17, 2020 Pretty sure is normal behavior due doppler effect. You should select a target offset to either side or maneuver the aircraft to have the target not directly in front of you. Guest Posted December 17, 2020 Posted December 17, 2020 Thanks for your reply. I'm not familiar with how the doppler effect would cause a black patch to appear on a radar screen except for the type of surface such as water. The black patch in the screenshot does not show water. FA-18 pilots can't operate with an AG radar where a target cannot be selected. Are you sure this is how the radar should operate!?
LastRifleRound Posted December 17, 2020 Posted December 17, 2020 EXP modes rely on doppler sharpening. This requires an offset of 15 degrees or greater. The greater your offset, the better the picture will be
rob10 Posted December 17, 2020 Posted December 17, 2020 Check out the Wags update video on this and IIRC he gives at least a basic explanation of this.
Sn8ke Posted December 17, 2020 Posted December 17, 2020 This is from doppler effect. Try scanning from an offset azimuth. Asus Prime Gaming Wifi7 // Intel 14900K @5.5GHz // 64Gb DDR5 6000MHz // 3090 RTX // 4TB Samsung NVME M.2
