Looking at options for playing DCS in VR...

Reverb G2 looks tempting, when available...  but does it really need an i7 cpu to run it?
IIRC the spec gives i7 as min...

My current GPU isn’t suitable, but that needs upgrading anyway, but was hoping that a new GPU with existing i5 6600K running at 4.2Ghz would cut it...

DCS really doesn't care which CPU you use as long it is driving fast enough.

Sure, some newer CPUs like the new ryzen will also improve fps a bit due to better/newer technology. But when it comes to VR you will be bottlenecked by the GPU more often then by CPU (except big mp missions with a lot going on).

That being said, I would rather invest in a new GPU and see how far you'll come with maybe over locking your i5.
