I'm creating a simple mission that has an enemy tank platoon rolling in and attacking an airbase. Your job is to scramble from the base and stop them. I put a few friendly tanks in their way just to have some help.

Now, I've set their waypoints to "on road" but after they engage the friendly tanks they stop. Is this due to losing to many units to the friendly tanks? I've also tried "off road" and the other formations, but they always stop. There's no sense of urgency if the enemy platoon is just sitting there. :)

Before I had the friendly tanks, they came right on through to the airbase, destroying a whole bunch of civilian buildings in the process...looked WAY cool...fires everywhere, smoke billowing out...

BUT, I'd like some friendlies in the area to give a more "busy" feel.

Any thoughts?

MMMM....If you haven't already done so: Make sure the friendly tank platoon is not on the road that the enemy tank platoon is using. That's the only thing I can think that it might be...

Yeah, I checked that first...they were on the road, but then I moved them a little ways off. Still no go. Does the AI have a "retreat" setting? ;) The only thing I can think of is that they're getting their butts kicked and won't advance anymore.

I can't really think what could be causing this.

One possibility that I have seen in the past is that vehicles will get stuck behind dead vehicles further up the column in certain circumstances. Have you tried making the friendly vehicles poorly armed or unarmed, eg Hummers so they get killed without inflicting any damage on your attacking tanks?

Can you attach your mission to this thread and perhaps some of the more knowledgeable folks could take a look at it? You will have to zip it up first so it is an acceptable file extension....

I'll try and upload it when I get home. Nobody laugh, I'm not a mission designer. ;)

I've also set them to "Off Road" and the same thing happens, they get so far and stop.

I'm about to just forget it...it was just to supposed to be a fun little quick mission. But you know how it is..."I'll try one more thing and then I'll go to bed"...:)

It could also be the gradient of the land. If vehicles are on road, they're not affected, and can climb vertically, but if they're in any other mode (off road, cone, rank) it sometimes seem they can't climb over a pile of leaves without getting stuck.

Check that there are no gradients greater than about 1 in 4 where your vehicles are getting stuck, and that can be in any direction that they're trying to cross it.

Highwayman-Ed makes a good point, if vehicles hit a slope they will stop. Which airbase was this mission set up around? Is it hilly? Ed's point also reminds me of another point - Built up urban areas. Because of the way the collisions are modelled for buildings, having a vehicle travel through a village, town or city area off road, you can see it take very convoluted routes to avoid colliding with the buildings. I have seen vehicles get eventually stuck and stop due to this.

Another point to remember (for the future, rather than this problem) is that vehicles wont cross water. If you want them to cross a river they have to be on road and use the bridges, they wont go across even the tiniest stream when off road - the wusses!

I didn't have time to upload it at home, but re-checked everything. I've got them set to On-Road...attacking Sochi-Adler from The road that runs close to the coast from Georgia. It's probably something really stupid I'm overlooking. Also, I don't really make missions (besides little quick dogfights), so my experience in nil.

The convoy consists of (IIRC) an M2 in front, then an Avenger, some Abrams tanks, then a few M818s, then a Vulcan and another Avenger. Around 15 total. Not a realistic composition, I know, just a quick, varied selection.

Instead of messing with it too much last night, I started the Su-25T Flaming Cliffs campaign instead...figured I'd see how a REAL mission's supposed to work. ;)

Oh, and thanks for all the help, gents...this n00b appreciates it!
