DCS tends to render the shadows at higher resolution when I get close to it. Is it possible to disable it or order DCS to render it at a fixed resolution? It feels really embarrassed, awkward and full of sudden to see a line when I fly close to the shadows. But I do not want to get the flat shadows.

It may not be just the shadows in your case, but the grass (ground clutter), which has a big impact on draw calls and rendering. Try disabling grass and test again.

Also the LOD transitions aren't exactly eye pleasing, it's been like that for quite some time so I kinda got used to it, hopefully 2.7 has some improvements in this area.

That's the reason I have put the ground shadows to "flat", though my system could easily handle default. But the LOD-popup was so annoying when flying low and slow (helicopters!). The other shadow-setting is on high.

First of all the blurriness/flickering of the default shadows is unrealistic and annoying. Second the "sharpening" when getting closer is a immersion breaker.

The only downside is the lack of object on object shadows. E.g. a tree will cast a shadow on the ground but won't on the side of a nearby building.

I'd wish there was a setting which would combine the best of those two settings. Even on the expense of performance....
