Snabbresning and other unkown buttons on my radar

I recently noticed, that there are a bunch of buttons/dials on the radar panel of the Viggen of which I have zero clue what they are supposed to do. Only one of them seems to actually be implemented in DCS, which is the Snabbresning button (see pic).

 

So my questions are:

1) What does the Snabbresning button do and why is it not mentioned anywhere in the manual?

2) What are all the other buttons/dials supposed to do and why are they not implemented?

Yeah, seems like. I just found this post in another thread:

I have tested this ingame and it definitely does something, as the nav system goes crazy after pressing the Snabbresning button and the warning panel shows a NAV SYS warning.

So when and how is this button supposed to be used correctly? :huh:

More info on the CI filter dial on the left side of the radar panel:

Apparently it's the dial that is known as the "radar night filter" in DCS. It can be mapped as a keybinding, but it's not possible to interact with the dial in the cockpit.

 

Edit: The radar night filter keybindings don't seem to work (anymore). I made a new bug report.

Did you try pressing the keybind a few times? It takes a few presses for it to start having an effect.

I did yes. I tried pressing it multiple times as well as keeping it pressed in for some time. Neither did work.

It just seems to be a keybind issue (on my end?) anyways, as I have learned.

 

So let's keep this thread here for figuring out what the remaining functions on the radar panel are supposed to do :smile:

Snabbresning is indeed used to realign the ADI (FLI37). I've been using it a lot since the last patch, it gets unaligned very easily now with the new changes.

That's interesting. I have not noticed that so far and when I pressed the Snabbresning to test it, it messed up my nav system as described above 🤔

Yeah, it's best done on the ground. The nav system stops working when aligning (as it looses all gyro inputs), which will cause some problems as you've noticed. 😅

 

No idea if that's how it's meant to work, will have to look through the manual a bit.

It's a rather detailed and technical description of how the different gyros are reset by the use of pendulums, magnetic compass and whatnot. It's obviously written by an engineer.

Anyway, from the description it's pretty obvious that it should be done with a stationary aircraft.

It takes 32 seconds plus a maximum of 70 seconds, so not quite so fast as the name might suggest.

A FLI 37 warning should light up for the duration of the process and then go away.

Not strictly, but you will get a much better alignment, obviously. But if it's very misaligned you can do it In the air, but you should fly as straight and level as possible, with as little deviation from 1g as possible.

I only can understand that it seems to apply the magnetic course to the gyro, and that chapter explains how it is done and what happens during the process. It seems to be similar to the F-16's inflight alignment when used in the air.
I'm learning swedish and decided that once I can read viggen manuals, I can travel to sweden and use my language skills, because if I do, I'm certainly good enough in swedish to order some kanelbullar without being awkward 🤣
