Recurring P.C. difficulties have me now in a position where I am a wee bitty in a hurry as to do the relevant research in obtaining specs for a new PC which I intend to have custom-built.

As such - any advice would be appreciated as to the components needed in order to get the ball rolling.

After advice already obtained from members of the community, my list thus far is as follows:

1. CPU: Intel Core 2 Duo E8500 LGA775 'Wolfdale' 3.16GHz (1333FSB).

2. Motherboard: Asus P5Q Deluxe P45 Socket 775 8 Channel Audio ATX Motherboard.

3. Graphics Card: ATI 4870 X2 (Single Card)

What I need are suggestions re the Hard Drive, PSU, Case, Cooling Unit (Need CPU to be OC'd to 4.5GHz) and RAM as well as other components I might have missed in the Tower.

OS will be XP.

As per the above specs - I am looking for the best/performance-boosting components to compliment the system, which need not necessarily be the cheapest. As such, any advice would be humbly appreciated.

Ta :)

Vipe- you posted in *this thread*, but I just wanted to bring it back up because the discussion involved that card.

10k rpm HD..

2 gig ram unless you are going XP64 bit

also- Hitman had some choice words for Asus during his build... (looking for it now)

that card is not out yet. :)

Aye. I'm planning the system around the card so the wait is planned - It's all Good :D

Thanx Konnie for the thread links :)

And on the topic of Micro-Stuttering as noted in the linked discussion - this might be of interest to those who suffer the stutters, which the 4870X2 apparently cures.

ATI 4870X2 and Micro-Stutters

Hey Viper, good standard HDD is 10.000RPM raptor... for PSU get 800W (or more if you're scrazy like me :) ) and if you want to overclock to 4.5GHz you will need water cooling... which in turn will make you have to watch for what case you're gonna get... you should be looking for a full tower case for sure... water cooling setups are going to be bit pain in the neck... check at Xtreme Systems forums and water cooling setups... there are tons of puctures of water cooled setups which will give you ideas...

PC specs:

Windows 11 Home | Asus TUF Gaming B850-Plus WiFi | AMD Ryzen 7 9800X3D + LC 360 AIO | MSI RTX 5090 LC 360 AIO | 55" Samsung Odyssey Gen 2 | 64GB PC5-48000 DDR5 | 1TB M2 SSD for OS | 2TB M2 SSD for DCS | NZXT C1000 Gold ATX 3.1 1000W | TM Cougar Throttle, Floor Mounted MongoosT-50 Grip on TM Cougar board, MFG Crosswind, Track IR

Overclocking to 4.5GHZ!!! Crikey are those E8500s capable of that speed without N2 cooling? As Acedy said, the Samsung Spinpoint F1 models have an excellent performance/cost ratio.

Asus Z390 Code XI, i9-9900K, RAM 32 Gig Corsair Vengeance @ 3200, RTX 2080 TI FE, TIR 5, Samsung 970 EVO 1TB, HOTAS WH, ASUS ROG Swift PG279Q, HTC Vive Pro, Win 10 x64
