Hi Flappie. I re-installed the game recently and it was install and download the game via the Eagle Dynamics website. Everything is install as ED wants. Why should I modify anything please?

The game is composed of two main folders:

  • the game itself( \DCS World\ or \DCS World OpenBeta\ )
  • your saved games folder, which contains your settings, your controls, your mods, your Export scripts, your liveries... ( Saved Games\DCS or DCS.openbeta )

The DCS updater doesn't mess with your saved games folder. It gets created when you first launch the game (DCS.exe). However, when the folder already exists, DCS.exe doesn't change it.

Since you've recently reinstalled the game, we can consider the \DCS World...\ folder is perfectly OK.

I'd like to make sure your issue doesn't come from your DCS saved games folder. That is why I'm asking you to rename it so DCS.exe creates a brand new one. Tell us if it works and we'll see from there.

No you don't! I said "we'll see from there'. A bit more patience please.

Try the multiplayer menu and see if your issue is fixed. Then I'll tell you how to retrieve your controls (unless you deleted the folder instead of renaming it?).

Good. Are you able to reproduce the freeze in the multiplayer list?

To recover your controls:

  1. Close the game,
  2. Copy your Saved Games\DCS_backup\Config\Input folder,
  3. Paste this Input folder into Saved Games\DCS\Config (or DCS.openbeta\Config\).

It shouldn't... Are you sure you placed the Input folder in the right place?

Anyway, if you're not happy with it, you can simply:

  1. Close DCS,
  2. Rename your new Saved Games\DCS (or DCS.openbeta) folder as "DCS_screwed".
  3. Rename your Saved Games\DCS_backup folder as "DCS" (or "DCS.openbeta")
