I am recently new to DCS World. My first flight sim since Microsoft CFS. I searched the forums and couldn't find an answer so I am reaching out. I purchased the P-47D and the Channel Map when It first came out. I understood that it was a work in progress. But now I see others talking about missiles and I belief the Grim Reaper has a tutorial on using them, so I am confused why I don't have them. Shouldn't they be added with the latest Open Beta. I can't find an option to buy a P-47D 40. So I am confused. Please help as I have limited air to air combat skills and I really like the ground attack missions, so the missiles are sorely missed. Thanks.

If you have purchased the P-47 you will have the P-47D-30, P-47D-30 (early) and the P-47D-40. The P47D-40 is the variant that can carry rockets. If you open the mission editor, you will be able to select the 40 variant of the P-47 and equip them with rockets under the loadout tab. The preset missions must have the earlier versions of the P-47 so you cannot equip rockets, however if you edit the mission, you will be able to select the P-47D-40 and use the rockets.

you can find the individual missions under "C:\Program Files\Eagle Dynamics\DCS World OpenBeta\Mods\aircraft\P-47D-30\Missions\Single" (or DCS World. I just happen to use the open beta version). Copy all the missions from there and post them into "C:\Users\your username\Saved Games\DCS.openbeta\Missions" and from there you will be able to edit the mission to use the P-47D-40

If you are new to the mission editor, you can insert a new aircraft with the button in the screenshot with the red arrow on the left side (or click on the yellow aircraft symbol if there is already a mission created). From there you can select the type of aircraft from the drop down menu located with the brown arrow on the right side.

from there you can make a new loadout from the loadout tab located with the red crosshair and create a new loadout with the New button on the bottom left located with the blue arrow.

From there you can select each weapon you would like to take by right clicking on the pilon slot circled red.

hope this helps out! I know It took me a while learning how to create missions with the editor

I see you are new to the warbirds. Welcome. 🙂

First, download P47 guide from  https://chucksguides.com/aircraft/dcs/p-47d/

It's an easy to read and follow document with pictures and all controls explained. Check section 9 for weapons controls.

For the rockets to work you need to:

1) use the bomb/tank/rocket safety switch and toggle it to UP position

2) Bomb/tank/rocket SELECTOR switch set to Rockets (down position)

3) Rocket firing Mode control:  set to single or auto

4) only then you can press a weapon release button on your stick for it to work.

DCS isn't IL2 or Warthunder 😄 , it's a simulator with all electrical, hydraulics, pneumatics systems fully developed/simulated, so you actually need to arm/trigger the weapons systems according to the real life pilot procedures.

Thanks, just looked at that nice manual ... for me all warthog settings are totally different than i got used to by now, not only with other DCS planes i fiddled around with.

Pfff, must do me some thinking about those mentioned p47 essentials accordingly ...

yeah, out of all wwii birds P47 is by far the most complex as far as the number of required bindings needed for smooth operation. But on the other hand it's the most geekiest because of it, and I love it. 🙂
