Kaptein_Damli Posted August 30, 2008 Posted August 30, 2008 The problem is that my Q6600 even at 3.6 and 3.8GHz I notice slowdowns in LOFC when taking off from a busy airfield surrounded by a lot of city/objects (granted the Penryn like E8600 are slightly faster than my Kentsfield clock per clock). The FPS sometimes drop down to 25 FPS which is very noticeable after being used to a much higher FPS average. This is also more apparent and noticeable with TrackIR. BTW this is with all graphic settings on high though, and multiple graphics mods .... I am hard to please I know. That´s because the coding of the engine is "bad" in terms of performance. I think this game is like Operation Flashpoint was back in 2001. It was made for being played at highest setting five-six years after release! The game also used a "old" direct X 8.0 I belive. The game is also not "optimized" enough. You say it yourself, even with the spec you have, you sometimes get 25fps with that rig. I suppose Lock On is not made for dual core in mind (no dual core back in 2003 I belive). This sim need LOTS of RAW CPU power and lots of RAM. Also a GPU with 512MB DDR3 surely helps. I have used countless of hours tweaking and tweaking the game with fpsfriendly mods, configs etc. I do have Falcon 4.0 AF and that sim runs like a charm, but the grafics are just so dated.. I do hope the code is more optimized in Black Shark. ED has something to learn from Oleg who made IL-2 back in 2001. That sim is more "old comp friendly" than Lock On. An example; trees look like 3D from up high, while going down, you will see that the "3D" trees are actually 2D trees made to look like 3D from air! GTengineer Posted August 30, 2008 Posted August 30, 2008 (edited) ^^^ agreed Same as what Crysis is today :D I prefer LOFC trees to IL2 though. In IL-2 they look good from up high but once you get down low they look more like umbrellas. Edited August 30, 2008 by GTengineer Q6600 @ 3.8GHz, 8GB DDR2-1000, 8800GT 512MB, Vista x64, TrackIR4
Ironhand Posted August 30, 2008 Posted August 30, 2008 ...Do you know which parameter in the config files is responsible for that?... JEFX Not sure but Teka Teka has a mod out to increase the LOD distances. Search for his name. His website is normally listed in his posts. So pick a post and click the link. You're looking for the LOD distance mod. JEFX Posted August 31, 2008 Posted August 31, 2008 Thanks Rich (and littlejohn), I have most of Teka's mods but didnt know about the last one (Vehicle LOD distance mod)! It did help a bit, but still, I would like to know which param. to play around with it myself... It doesnt solve all the problem : now I the big square box becomes a vehicle at a mile and a half, which is better than before but still way too close, especially looking at it through a res. of 3840X1028... [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC] In DCS I fly jets with thousands of pounds of thrust... In real life I fly a humble Cessna Hawx XP II with 210 HP :D
