tmansteve Posted March 15, 2021 Posted March 15, 2021 (edited) Hi All My broadband has been playing up over the last few months and have had huge problems updating and connecting to multiplayer. I am hoping that tomorrow might bring a fix, but if I am not lucky, I might have to consider the mobile network route. As I am in the UK and rural, my choices are limited to BT 4G so my question is, will this connect to the DCS server? I have also seen in multiplayer, connect with IP. Would it be possible to connect to my brother if he is hosting a multiplayer mission? I am pulling what's left of my hair out and my options are getting squeezed. I know that the 4G hub has UPnP but it seems every one has the same IP address so it would make sense for me to connect to them and not the other way round. I'm not sure if this will suffice unless I can allow the ports to be opened by my firewall. Any ideas or help would be great Edited March 15, 2021 by tmansteve
Svsmokey Posted March 15, 2021 Posted March 15, 2021 I know nothing about running DCS on mobile . But i did read that Starlink is available now at least in northern GB . 9700k @ stock , Aorus Pro Z390 wifi , 32gb 3200 mhz CL16 , 1tb EVO 970 , MSI RX 6800XT Gaming X TRIO , Seasonic Prime 850w Gold , Coolermaster H500m , Noctua NH-D15S , CH Pro throttle and T50CM2/WarBrD base on Foxxmounts , CH pedals , Reverb G2v2
The_Nephilim Posted March 16, 2021 Posted March 16, 2021 (edited) Well it should work but it will only be as good as the connection it has to the towers.. Wire is best still but 4G should get the job done especially if you get a strong signal.. You ONLY need to Open a port in DCS if you HOST.. so you should be fine connecting to your brothers server unless he is using 4G as well.. tmansteve Posted March 16, 2021 Author Posted March 16, 2021 (edited) Thanks guys for the info. Looked at starlink but maybe a little too expensive yet. Had an engineer come round today and found multiple errors so had to arrange for another visit, this time to work on their end to hopefully fix it. At least I know that if I had to use 4G, I should be able to connect to my brother who is on superfast broadband. Many Thanks Edited March 16, 2021 by tmansteve
The_Nephilim Posted March 16, 2021 Posted March 16, 2021 Do you know what speed tier you will be getting with 4G, and what was the error, signal degraded or something? tmansteve Posted March 16, 2021 Author Posted March 16, 2021 I would be looking at 30meg 4G. They say the signal strength is good in our area. I am still hoping for my broadband to be fixed on Thursday as I need to port forward still. The broadband has been fault free for the last 10 years until last December and its been getting worse ever since. We know it is to do with their equipment so all they need to do is pull their fingers out and get it sorted.
