CBenson89
I know that’s a silly question but I’ve gotten radar locks before gone to shoot a missile and missiles. Is the only way to use aim 9s by firing with the gunsight? Thanks all!! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Doc3908
The F-5E carries IR missiles, so, no, the radar doesn't help with those. The radar is VERY useful however for aiming the guns.
TLTeo
It's also pretty useful to estimate the distance to the target and know whether you're within missile firing range or not.

The radar is VERY useful however for aiming the guns. RADARs can be used to slave IR seekers to targets, just not in the F-5E-3. But yes, in MSL mode, the gunsight will display a range, and give you an in-range cue (which is also repeated on the RADAR). And in the dogfight modes, provides a RADAR computed gunsight which is quite accurate (well, it would be if the guns didn't just spray all over the place). 2 Modules I own: F-14A/B, Mi-24P, AV-8B N/A, AJS 37, F-5E-3, MiG-21bis, F-16CM, F/A-18C, Supercarrier, Mi-8MTV2, UH-1H, Mirage 2000C, FC3, MiG-15bis, Ka-50, A-10C (+ A-10C II), P-47D, P-51D, C-101, Yak-52, WWII Assets, CA, NS430, Hawk.
