I was trying to get someone new into playing DCS today, he was frequently freezing in the loading screens while loading instant action or multiplayer. When it did connect, he would get a few minutes into the game before he would get a crash to desktop. Not sure exactly his system specs but he's got a 2070 super and I think 32gb ram.

I've got a 2080ti and only 16gb ram and I haven't had a single crash yet.

Hi @Prelude. It might be caused by the antivirus. Ask him/her to add these DCS folders as exceptions in the antivirus options:

Stable / Release

  • C:\Users\username\Saved Games\DCS
  • \DCS World\

Open beta

  • C:\Users\username\Saved Games\DCS.openbeta
  • \DCS World OpenBeta\

Thanks I'll pass this along to him and we'll see how it goes

Another possibility is that one of the drive (the one DCS is installed on, or the one the pagefile is stored on) is way too slow. This can be due to an old HDD or to a damaged SATA cable. See an example here.

You were right about the drive. Although it was installed on an SSD last year, he switched the install folder to a different SSD and its been working just fine. Thanks for the suggestions.
