wraith76 Posted April 27, 2021 Posted April 27, 2021 Hi All, A buddy of mine and myself are looking to get a WWII plane and do some flying together in a WWII era campaign or mission. I have no clue about the WWII planes, assets and campaigns. We were looking to get the P-47D however any recommendations would be welcomed. We would prefer the Ally planes. Anyways, my main question is 1. Do we have to buy not just a WWII plane but also the WWII Asset pack and the Channel or Normandy maps as well? Do we get any missions/campaigns that come with just the P-47D that include WWII enemies? 2. Are we able to do WWII campaigns together in coop? Could any of you recommend or offer your opinions on the best route to take for a good WWII experience? Thanks!

That's more than one question at once, but still… - You don't have to buy nothing more than the plane if that's what you want. But, if you want to fly Normandy or Channel missions/multiplayer servers/campaigns/whatever you obviously need those and it all makes sense since those are their proper environment. So, it's up to you but you'll somewhat be limited to Caucasus as WWII environment. - Training and quick fly missions are there for all the warbirds. P-51 comes with a skills campaign but not WWII related nor it features any combat. I don't remember about campaigns in P-47 or Spitfire, I don't think they have but would need to check. Some of those quick missions and training missions feature WWII units, even assets pack units if you own it. Again it's up to you but if you don't own the maps you won't have those missions that comes with the maps. 19 hours ago, wraith76 said: 2. Are we able to do WWII campaigns together in coop? rkk01 Posted April 28, 2021 Posted April 28, 2021 (edited) It’s probably worth saying that the TF-51 Mustang is free with the core DCS download. If you haven’t already tried it, this will give you the chance to test your warbird flying skills on the Caucasus map. No guns, but will give you an idea if the warbirds are what you want... they are a steep learning curve I think that the P-47 and FW 190 A8 are the quickest to get to grips with. Probably worth avoiding the Spitfire and 109 Edited April 28, 2021 by rkk01
71st_AH Rob Posted April 28, 2021 Posted April 28, 2021 Good advice to try out the TF-51D first and see what it is like so you have a benchmark. Then, if the complex nature of managing a warbird is for you, buy the one you are passionate about. If you are not passionate about any of them, maybe consider sticking to jets until one comes along that you are passionate about. 1
