Hi,

I'm wondering what FOV are you using for cockpit view? From sim racing I'm used to set it approximately to calculated real FOV (https://simsource.net/tools/fov-calc).

I'm seeing a lot of YT videos, where people are using very wide horizontal FOV for a single relatively small display (for instance 90-110 degrees on a 27" monitor). Is it to have better situational awareness in dogfights? However everything seems way too distorted to me.

Thanks.

Yeah, I used to have it fixed at real fov (27" sitting pretty close gave me around 63 degrees) without using zoom at all. With headtracking I had no SA or visibility problems @FullHD. I even turned off Z axis to stop the unrealistic zoom effect when moving head forward.

It's rare though in sim community - most use default fov or set it high anyway and use zoom whenever needed - just to see more of the cockpit and world around.

Now that I went VR it turned out it looks nothing at all like on a screen whatever setting you had 🙂

My advice is to use what works for you. Yet another trick is to use headtracking Z axis as zoom - some like it.

As a rule of thumb: if your viewing distance from the monitor equals the width of it, a realistic fov would be 60 (for a 1 monitor setup, if you are closer the fov is bigger), but...

since you are very limited in the peripherical view with a monitor compared to your normal sight, I allow myself a little bit of cheating.

I sit an arm length away from a 48" Display - therefore my comfort zone is between 80 and 90 depending on the module.
