bear.is.flying Posted September 21, 2008 Posted September 21, 2008 (edited) I feel one of the problems with LOMAC:FC currently is the lack of atmosphere. There's nothign that really sets one mission apart from another. What would really help is if we had pre-mission briefings. They don't have to be complicated. In fact, the simpler they are, the more effective they will be. This will allow users to set up their own briefings when publishing their missions / campaigns. My suggestion is to allow the user to use a set of images as slides, similar to a Powerpoint presentation. These would be shown with text subtitles or recorded voice-overs, and music in the background. The briefing will shown at the start of the mission, while the mission itself loads in the background. Of course, an option to skip it entirely has to be present. Examples would be: Graphical slides showing the progression of the war, such as pictures of armored columns, air bases, other aircraft on missions, etc. This will give the user a feeling that there's more going on than just him. Map slides showing the current mission. They can go from showing the overall flight plan, to more detailed slides showing the target. Graphical slides showing the objective. If you're attacking a specific location, pictures of the target can be shown. If anyone's played the game World in Conflict, that's exactly what I'm refering to. A series of simple graphical slides with text/voice-overs setting the atmosphere before a mission. Low system load so the mission loads in the background, and you're in the game as soon as the briefing is over. Very simple, yet very effective. Vekkinho Posted September 21, 2008 Posted September 21, 2008 Nice idea but perhaps too complicated at this moment! Remember DCS release date is expected within next 2 or 3 months so I don't believe we've got enough time for a thing like that. Video file for each and ever mission would seriousely increase install size , although each campain might show a small sitrep in a video! [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC]
-sulan- Posted September 21, 2008 Posted September 21, 2008 I think it's a nice idea.. There is a Lomac:FC campaign (flying the su-25T) with briefing videos before all of the 8 missions it contains, very nice campaign but I can't remember it's name (it's downloadable on lockonfiles). So videos can allready be added.. I think it'd be very nice if one could attach pictures to a briefing in a simple way, would be useful for reconphotos and whatnot..

It doesn't have to be video files since we're talking about static slides. 5-6 .jpgs and a text file for text overlay is all that's required. Coding it shouldn't take very long either since all you're doing is displaying pictures before a mission. Intel Core i7-8700K @ 5.0 GHz // Nvidia GTX 1080Ti // 32 GB DDR4 RAM // 1 TB SSD
bear.is.flying Posted September 21, 2008 Author Posted September 21, 2008 (edited) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YVIRcxUEUhc&feature=related This is an example of what I meant. The voice-overs can be optional, and replaced with text overlays. Edited September 21, 2008 by Darkmage Intel Core i7-8700K @ 5.0 GHz // Nvidia GTX 1080Ti // 32 GB DDR4 RAM // 1 TB SSD
EvilBivol-1 Posted September 21, 2008 Posted September 21, 2008 The new ME already supports image attachments to the briefing. ED does plan on implementing audio and video attachments, but this hasn't happened yet and may or may not make it into the Black Shark release. http://forums.eagle.ru/showpost.php?p=419430&postcount=159 - EB [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC] Nothing is easy.
