CTD playing MP in VR

RvL

Recommended Posts

Hi all,

Im getting several CTD while playing multiplayer in VR with the Rift S.

Like once in every session.

When the CTD happens, im back into the oculus home menu but the audio of the game continues for some time in the backgound.

It sounds like the game is still running in the background without any visual.

After some time it stops and i get the DCS crashscreen.

Im flying the F14 using only the F14 pilot lantirn mod.

I hope someone who understands the logfiles can clarify some things up for me.

Some system specs:

DCS 2.7 OB

Im running windows 10 (updated)

Ryzen 5 2600 OC 4.1ghz
Nvidia RTX 3070

32 GB ram 3200mhz

500GB SSD

I have just managed to play for 3 hours on a server without crashes, this time without overclocking my CPU.

I wonder if thats the problem.

@5ephir0th Do you overclock your CPU?

CPU & GPU, tried with the GPU without overclock, same results but it has no sense that was the O/C, it only happens on MP and, for me, only first time, if i start to play again i don’t have any problem

Yeah im not sure if its the overclock thats causing it.

I forgot to mention i also changed my pagefile to 32gb after my last crash.

Today i have flown for another 2 hours this afternoon with no crashes!

I do hope someone like Flappie will respond on the log to help us understand why it crashed.

Hi @RvL. I've found two other users with ImGui.dll crashes. One of them was flying the Tomcat as well. I'll ask him if he's using the Pilot Lantirn mod.

Just had another CTD, but no log file has been made.

I just dropped a mk82 from the F14 and while looking back at the impact it quits VR.

VR just quits with audio of the game still going on. Sounds like the game is still running and is responsive to keybindings like changing views from the sound of it.

Desktop visual is freezed. Had to cntr alt delete to stop dcs.

This is getting really annoying.

Thanks for replying Flappie.

Unfortunally i already reinstalled the module.

I also got a BSOD a little later.

Im not sure whats going on.

For now im considering a upgrade of my powersupply cause i have a corsair 550W.

The internet says it should be enough while having a RTX 3070 wich has the requirements of a minimal of 650W, but ive got the feeling my pc is struggeling sometimes to deliver.

  • 2 weeks later...

Tested a bit of flying on PVE servers with a new 750W PSU.

I havent had any CTD yet, hopefully thats in the past.

I do notice a sudden fps loss from a solid 40 to 20fps, with nothing big or anything fps demanding happening during flight.

If the drop happens it also makes my screems extremely laggy and nothing seems to be able to fix it wich forces me to exit the game.

Even the Oculus menu has become very laggy what makes me start to believe its not even a DCS problem, but an Oculus problem.

Havent experienced a CTD anymore.

I do still get big drops to 20fps or even lower on pve servers.

Looks like when a server has +/- 10 players im okay with stable 40fps.

With players up to 20 or more i get drops to 20fps with some screentearing at the edges of my VR view when moving.

I have tried setting my visual options at max low or off, but joining the same servers the frame drops continue.

So visualy it doesnt really matter what settings i put it.

Does this had something to do with my cpu?

I have a ryzen 5 2600.

Time for a upgrade?

Hi Flappie, thats something i have to do already everytime i play, otherwise my cursor goes outside of the DCS screen making my window go out of focus.

I believe i have that box checked.

I've heard that this is also a bug in 2.7 forcing VR players to alt enter for full screen.

I'll check it out tomorrow when im home. Thanks.

Box was unchecked for some reason, but on or off didnt make any difference, untill the latest 2 patches came out and that was solved for me.

Today i cleaned up my ssd's using windows "cleanup disk" utility, and i got rid of 7 gigs of old drivers and stuff.

Since this and the latest 2 patches im getting better fps, but also my graphics look better.

Not sure how or why, but im quite happy with my current performance and visuals.

I still get some low fps down to 20 sometimes, but its way less noticiable.

Im also very happy with the cloud jitter fix wich fixed it 100% for me. Clouds are also looking way better since the patches.

I noticed that when i overclock my cpu from 3.4 to 4.1ghz, i get crashes.

Without OC i havent experienced any crash so far.

Just had a lot of screentearing and low fps again.

Not sure what to do anymore.

Does the vr shadermod still has any use since 2.7?

No im not using the mod anymore since 2.7 came out.

Was just wondering if it still has any benefit fps wise.

Just tried 2D, but there is no way back.

I turned down my pixel density a bit to 1.2 and mssa to 2x wich ofcourse increases performance. From the current tests i did it does look promising. Hopefully i can get used to the decreased visuals.

Seems like its either that or major stuttering, ghosting and screentearing.

A VR focussed patch would be neat.
