G.J.S Posted May 19, 2021 Posted May 19, 2021 I had created a flight (SP) and set Master NORM, Anti colliders on, navs OFF, Wing Tail and Fuse OFF, yet the Form lights brightness dial will alter the brightness of the Nav lights - yet they are supposed to be off. Picture shows lighting selected - the dial at lower left is the possible issue? - - - The only real mystery in life is just why kamikaze pilots wore helmets? - - -
Tholozor Posted May 20, 2021 Posted May 20, 2021 As-per the -1, with the MASTER knob in NORM, the FORM knob will control the brightness of the formation lights, as well as the wingtip lights when the WING/TAIL switch is in the OFF position. G.J.S Posted May 20, 2021 Author Posted May 20, 2021 Seems a little counter intuitive? If wing/tail are set to off, they shouldn't be on. - - - The only real mystery in life is just why kamikaze pilots wore helmets? - - -
Tholozor Posted May 20, 2021 Posted May 20, 2021 (edited) The FORM knob provides variable brightness, unlike the switches which are either BRT or DIM. Most of those lights also possess NVG lights for the COVERT modes, which variable brightness would be useful. G.J.S Posted May 20, 2021 Author Posted May 20, 2021 Thanks chap. Bit different from my time! - - - The only real mystery in life is just why kamikaze pilots wore helmets? - - -
Donut Posted May 21, 2021 Posted May 21, 2021 I posted this a ways back... https://forums.eagle.ru/topic/220370-not-a-bug-formation-lights-dont-turn-off/?tab=comments#comment-4101361 The exterior lighting controls are correct, but make no sense at all. They do not do what they are labeled to do. i5 7600K @4.8GHz | 1080 Ti | 32GB 3200MHz | SSD | DCS SETTINGS | "COCKPIT"
Frederf Posted May 22, 2021 Posted May 22, 2021 There is a logic to them but it's a bit of a learning curve. Four of the seven (counting wingtip upper and lower separately) position lights aren't just position, they're dual function position/formation. Turning the position function switch for wing/tail to off you're freeing them up to be used by the formation light system. Otherwise when on their higher priority role as position lights overrides their formation duties. The tail and intake position lights don't participate in the formation system at all and so they do go off if the position wing/tail switch is set to off. This dates back all the way to the F-16A model.
