R-73 from 8m not detonate.

today happen that. R-73 was about 850kmh at the moment of this miss and only 8m without detonation. There is a reason for R-73 doesn't detonate when speed get bellow 900kmh? Seem a kind of code for missiles when get lower speed to tend to fail detonation.

Point of reference is the pilots head. So the actual distance here is more than 8m.

 

So, two questions for you. 

 

Have you tested that speed influences detonation probability? 

 

What is the real life trigger radius for the R-73?

DCS R-73 proxy fuze range is 5m. And speed has no effect on proxy fuze chance. What happened was the missile got too slow to maneuver within the 5m proxy fuze range. Nothing abnormal.
