Look for a little white streak. when you see it starting to pick up speed across your canopy, get some G on that jet! Some missiles have smoke trails, some don't, it depends on their motor. Again, when you get that launch tone, the missile's on it's way, so you should put it on the beam ASAP. Make it fly the longest distance geometrically possible. Expect to have 5-10 seconds to react, depending on distances.

This guy's example is awful. He's demonstrating a great way to get your arse whipped. These missiles are passing well within their real life proximity fusing distances, with high PK. He's lucky LockOn has awful missile dynamics. I assume DCS will rectify this and eventually he'll need to re-learn the proper way!

I really should shut up though, I haven't flown combat in months! :D This is all from older days.

Aaron's is pretty much spot on.

But it still looks nice :P.

S = SPARSE(m,n) abbreviates SPARSE([],[],[],m,n,0). This generates the ultimate sparse matrix, an m-by-n all zero matrix. - Matlab help on 'sparse'

I hope so too, otherwise all this waiting will have been in vain.
