Ice Posted January 14, 2005 Posted January 14, 2005 Recently the Hyperlobby is full (980 users) When this first started to happen i sent a message to Jiri and his response was pretty disappointing. I think a couple of bad apples have removed his motivation to support the community fully. Which is surprising because considering there are thousands of registered users you'd expect an A-hole or two. Anyway if Lock On is to be successful online I think it would be wise for it to have its OWN Lobby. Maye E.D would consider developing such a beast?
Guest ruggbutt Posted January 14, 2005 Posted January 14, 2005 I read somewhere that Jiri's host uses Linux and that support for 980 peeps is all that can be had.

169th_Cobra Posted January 14, 2005 Posted January 14, 2005 is there any reason why he cant run it from two hosts or two different versions from the same host? have one for say prop sims and one for jet sims and all you do is download the applicable version of hyperlobby? or as Ice mentioned maybe ED could do something like Hyperlobby when they are doing the dedicated software program!
GGTharos Posted January 14, 2005 Posted January 14, 2005 Jiri has a specific vision of how his software will work; the linux host isn't the issue. The issue is that he would have to cluster multiple machines to be able to handle the load of more users which isn't a trivial thing and right now HL apaprently has no clustering capabilities (and why would it?) [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC] Reminder: SAM = Speed Bump :D I used to play flight sims like you, but then I took a slammer to the knee - Yoda
SUBS17 Posted January 15, 2005 Posted January 15, 2005 Hyperlobby full, man thats a new one. Must be all those free copies floating around from PF. Its good to see more players. [sIGPIC] [/sIGPIC]
ZoomBoy27 Posted January 15, 2005 Posted January 15, 2005 A quote from Jiri at HyperLobby Posted: Thu Oct 28, 2004 6:15 pm subject: Re: Maximum Players Allowed Ouch. For that i must rewrite the HL server software to run on multiple servers, in a cluster ... And this is alot of work ... Maybe when more ppls de$erve it JG27*Hyper Site Admin He's a good fella but I guess there's some limits for LOMAC(60+ max users) especially when Pacific Fighters is the main user(850+ max users) ZoomBoy My Flight Sims Page - Link to My Blog - Sims and Things - DCS Stuff++ - Up-to-Speed Guides to the old Lockon A10A and Su-25T - Some missions [needs update]
VapoR Posted January 15, 2005 Posted January 15, 2005 or as Ice mentioned maybe ED could do something like Hyperlobby when they are doing the dedicated software program! I like this idea. It would also be very cool if it had an in-game browser, chat lobby, buddy list, private messaging, etc . . . But I guess that will take a bit of resources, and I personally would like it if they put all available into the sim itself instead.
