Harpoon in Sea Search Radar

Hi,

 

Following Spudknocker's video to launch the Harpoon in Sea Search Mode in the Hornet

 

Why are my Harpoons 180 from where I want to launch. 

 

Using Marianas Island Map, Enemy Ships at 180 but Harpoons are going 360

 

I must be forgetting something

The default mode for Harpoons is Bearing-Only Launch (BOL) which defaults to true north. You have to switch the missiles to Range/Bearing Launch (RB/L) after a target has been designated.

Yep it was operator error

 

Like Tholozor said you have to tell the Harpoon you are using Sea Search Mode

 

You have to tell each missile to use it effectively

 

Harpoons are like Pitbull AMRAAMS

Correct, there is no communication with the missile post-launch. It only knows generally where you’ve told it to look, and it’ll destroy whatever it comes across. 
 

You can use Man in the Loop (MITL) weapons such as SLAM and SLAM-ER for anti shipping work also, when target discrimination is needed at long range. 
 

For targets without ranged defenses, laser-guided bombs can be used.

The other thing about RB/L mode is that it doesn't matter where the target designation comes from, only that a designation point exists. RB/L mode is not exclusive to SEA radar.

A bit off topic but harpoon is still not synced in mp or it was just bug on my side?
