Yesterday I tried the game for a first time and, well 3 hours later I'm still tinkering with performance.

After many many adjustments using guides, loading FSR dll files, using PP=0.5 and increasing SteamVR SS I finally have a setting that works very well (at least in training missions!) However, I do have an annoying bug.

For 95% of the time everything is crisp and smooth 45fps. But suddenly motion projection brakes for a second, FPS increases and I get a little stutter, everything moving back to normal within a second. This happens every 10-15 seconds or so.

I tried using Force always-on as a setting in steamVR, but that utterly fails, fps is 30-40 fps and smoothing never happens!?

Any thoughts?

both CPU and GPU have to maintain less than 22ms frametime; something, most likely CPU, is breaking you out of motion smoothing.

try having a look at background tasks, rotating screen savers led lighting changes, in task manager, order by CPU usage and see if something is spiking at the time you are getting the FPS loss...

also make sure HAGS is off ... I dont know enough about Ryzen to advise you , but, you might want to check you are not bouncing around a thermal limit ...

My frametimes are always <14ms. Not a single dropped frame, performance isn't the issue. It sometimes just brakes motion smoothing. And forcing it on leads to weird results. The solution must lie in forcing it on, but I need someone that can help with the broken behavior that it now gives as I have described in my post.

just checking both your CPU and GPU frame times are below 14ms all the time, you understand that the steam number is a aggregate and you are measuring this in FPSvr or similar?

I am measuring this in fpsvr.

I see fps suddenly increase and gpu usage% as well. it ittermittently brakes motion smoothing. Again, when I try to force it, it behaves very weird, fps will drop to 30 often, while on auto it never goes below 45
