cloud coverage editor preview (for upcoming dynamic weather sim)

It's been really nice to make some ground attack missions with the new weather, where the aircrafts have to exploit holes in the cloud cover to peak through and designate/lase target without descending under the clouds where they'd get targeted by an army of manpads and flak.

with the static weather, you can just choose a nice preset and then adjust your mission accordingly. not very user friendly, but surely doable.

however with the upcoming dynamic weather simulation, it would be more helpful than ever to get at least some rough preview of expected cloud cover, winds and visibility at a specific time and at a specific location within the editor.

i don't care how this would be solved in detail, since we also don't know how the dynamic weather will work exactly and how it will be set up in the mission editor. my wish would simply be, that there would be some rough forecast, so that mission designers do not have to play through the whole mission to see how the weather evolves over time.

Or at the least get proper METAR notation. The currently implementation does not accurately use FEW/SCT/BKN/OVC, nor are the altitudes correct.

this is also true, but i'd argue that for mission designers it would be more critical to get an idea if an area is under cloud cover or not, respectively if an area will be under cloud cover at a set time (once weather is dynamic).

I've been flying with thick cloud cover in all my missions, all with multiple client start points across the entire map. The pattern I've noticed is that the client/player starting airfield is typically (but not always) located in a break in the weather. Targets, also dotted across the map, typically (but not always) are located near breaks in the weather. The ones that aren't are often able to be marked via TPOD from a break in the weather.
