The_Sko Posted September 8, 2021 Posted September 8, 2021 I've been all over reading, but just confused and figured I would ask. Does the in game resolution have any bearing on what is being displayed? I have the Reverb 2 and everyone's settings, in game mind you, are all over the map. Trying to determine if I'm messing this up or it needs to be something else as I mess with the rendered resolutions. Thanks ahead of time.

The_Sko Posted September 9, 2021 Author Posted September 9, 2021 OK interesting, thank you for the answer, just curious how that is? Doesn't the game know what to crank out as a resolution? I see all the other functions do have a bearing on it like shadows, textures and so on.
AKA_Clutter Posted September 9, 2021 Posted September 9, 2021 I'm way out of my league here but I'll take a shot. For VR, the game interfaces with the HMD software (Oculus, SteamVR/WMR, etc....) and take the output from you GPU, does it's transformation to the appropriate HMD resolutions, and two screens, and then output it to the headset. The other settings that affect how the game is displayed (Textures, draw distances, etc.) are used to generate the basic "scene". The in-game resolution is for flat panel, and you don't use that. I have no doubt that I butchered this pretty badly. ---------------- AKA_Clutter Win 10 Pro, Intel i7 12700k @4.6 GHz, EVGA RTX 3080 FTW, Ultra 64 GB G.Skill DDR4 3600 RAM, Acer 27" flat screen, HP Reverb G2, TM Warthog HOTAS with Virpil warBRD base, MFG Rudder Pedals, Virpil TCS Rotor Base with AH-64Dcollective, TrackIR 5 Pro w/Vector Expansion, PointCTRL.
The_Sko Posted September 9, 2021 Author Posted September 9, 2021 No sweat my man, it I'll take your word for it because I don't have a better answer. HA But thanks for the input.
AKA_Clutter Posted September 9, 2021 Posted September 9, 2021 I'm hoping that someone with much more detail knowledge of the API/interface will respond and provide more detail/better information. ---------------- AKA_Clutter Win 10 Pro, Intel i7 12700k @4.6 GHz, EVGA RTX 3080 FTW, Ultra 64 GB G.Skill DDR4 3600 RAM, Acer 27" flat screen, HP Reverb G2, TM Warthog HOTAS with Virpil warBRD base, MFG Rudder Pedals, Virpil TCS Rotor Base with AH-64Dcollective, TrackIR 5 Pro w/Vector Expansion, PointCTRL.
speed-of-heat Posted September 9, 2021 Posted September 9, 2021 The resolution at least for WMR devices is set by = The physical resolution of the device and in the Custom resolution modifier in Steam VR rather in the 2d resolution inside the game, you can impact the resolution from the game in VR by changing the PD ( i dont recommend it, rather only change the CRM in steam, other wise you will just end up chasing the dragon), which allows you to over (value greater than 1) or under sample (value less than 1) the resolution that is produced.
