trying to figure out how they matte the sim outside of the physical cockpit, since there's obviously no chroma-key or green screens.

Yeah. There seems to be some witchcraft going on here, but this is my personal ideal solution. I want to build an Apache Pilot station for VR, but VR is a massive pain for seeing outside the HMD. Maybe in 5 years this’ll be more developed and hopefully cheaper!

Always thought about that and if it could be possible, as I saw the HTC Vive Pro the first time and realized it has some foward looking cams. But after a research I found out that there is no way to overlay the outside view in VR. A guy at steam started such a program which can do it, but sadly stoped it after many negative reviews.
