After a couple of days I can now take off the spitfire using the instant action take off on the Caucasus map with no assist.  Thought I would try the same instant action on the Normandy map.  Should in theory be easier as its a lovely wide runway.  In practice I am getting the huge torque when the tail wheel rises using the same technique as before, where I had them all under control, but not on the Normandy map..  Would have thought the flight model was consistent over all maps. The only thought that comes to mind is the elevation but both seem to be coastal settings.  Any thoughts?

Just tried the Flying Irons version and that's really easy to take off and land by comparison, full hard settings.

thanks

Thanks for the prompt response, have checked and both use the normal variant, not the CW.  The wind on the Caucasus is 4m/s but only 1m/s on the Normandy map, so Normandy should in theory be easier.

The bindings are unchanged between the maps and take off is OK when I return to the Caucasus.

Will try out the Channel and Nevada maps tomorrow and see how I get on with those.  Will also try creating my own take off practice missions using the quick mission option for both Caucasus and Normandy maps, so can zero the wind etc.  Nevada might be a bit different due to the altitude.

The MSFS version feels like an arcade version in comparison.  Will also see have the IL2 version takes off and lands.

I do enjoy the challenge that DCS gives. Will also compare the P51 instant take off missions between the maps to see if there is a difference, as that is far easier than the Spit. Amazing how many hours you get swallowed up into DCS over just the basics.

FM is consistent, but the weather and elevations are not. The difference in wind speed is not huge, but you've got right crosswind a bit towards the nose on the Caucasus mission and tailwind slightly from the right on Normandy one, so the plane will react noticeably different.

Creating your own no-wind missions for practice purposes is the best option then and it's quite easy to do it in full mission editor, give it a try.

^ Makes you wonder why this mission had been set up like that!
