nikita_nomad Posted October 21, 2021 Posted October 21, 2021 Hi guys, a bit of a mistery for me.. So I flew a mission from su27 campaign, where I came across 2 f16, and they got my wingman but I ended up shooting them both down eventually, which I was super happy about. So I decided to save track and record a replay of it. But to my surprise in the replay I was gunned down myself.. How is this even possible? I swear I didn't dream that win. :))
Art-J Posted October 21, 2021 Posted October 21, 2021 DCS replay system doesn't save actions, only control inputs (yours and AI ones). Then when you hit replay, the game just plays the same mission again, using those inputs. If they were saved correctly and then recreated correctly, the track will play fine. Otherwise, it will play different every time you run it. And that's what what happens very often, unfortunately, especially if mission is longer and has many units and lots of events in it. For the same reason (inputs saving), tracks are by definition not backwards-compatible when you update the game (although they'll sometimes work if there were no flight model and other physics changes in the patch). Singleplayer replay system has been unreliable for years, it's a known and long standing issue. The best way of using it is... forgetting about it ;). Some say the multiplayer tracks are much more reliable, though. i7 9700K @ stock speed, single GTX1070, 32 gigs of RAM, TH Warthog, MFG Crosswind, Win10.
Roosterfeet Posted October 21, 2021 Posted October 21, 2021 The track reconstructs the mission based on recorded player inputs and the mission file. Changes to things like flight model and weapons modeling can have drastic effects on the outcome of the replay. Track files are frequently only good for the DCS version in which they were recorded. I like Tacview for mission replay. https://www.tacview.net/product/about/en/ It can cause a small performance hit though. 5800x3D, rtx4070, Quest3 (sometimes)
