Captain Orso Posted October 21, 2021 Posted October 21, 2021 (edited) Has anyone else noticed that (at in SP, or on a local client running as a server) when the Huey is resting on a ship that it is constantly simmying forward a few inches, but over time like about a foot or two per minute at least. Happens apparently with spawned in AI Huey with no orders to startup, as well as client aircraft that someone is simply sitting it. Happens whether the aircraft is dark or has engine in idle. On the destroyers, frigates, and cruisers, with the blade starting out pointing forward, within a minute or so the blade is hitting the superstructure and breaking. I was on a friends server yesterday and he told me he saw it constantly happening, but I was a guest on his server and didn't see that, but I did note that the Huey was constantly wobbling back and forth, both with or without the engine running. Today, I setup a mission on my system and ran it in SP. The mission has at least one each modern US war ship which can start helicopters and the shimmying happened on all of them. Volator Posted October 22, 2021 Posted October 22, 2021 Yes, it's (unfortunately) quite an old bug. 1./JG71 "Richthofen" - Seven Eleven
Captain Orso Posted October 22, 2021 Author Posted October 22, 2021 I was hoping it was something that slipped in with the last update and the could easily be fixed. It makes using coppers on anything smaller than a aircraft carrier practically impossible, unless you use hot start and leave immediately, otherwise the rotor will be pushed into the superstructure. Tanuki44 Posted October 23, 2021 Posted October 23, 2021 (edited) I tested it with the Gazelle. It does not slide on the deck and also on the grass, problem specific to the Huey? ED knows the problem, in the campaign 'World Apart Spring' mission 2, the Huey AI plunged into the river after some minutes ... Edited October 23, 2021 by Tanuki44
Captain Orso Posted October 23, 2021 Author Posted October 23, 2021 So this happens not on ships too? But on hard ground I don't think I've witnessed it happening. DishDoggie Posted October 23, 2021 Posted October 23, 2021 I've noticed this in single player missions if you set on a ship to long that's moving. I have not looked into it. I am wondering if the Huey can be linked to the Ship in the Mission editor for the start of the mission. That should stop the slide. But you would need to start on the ship to take off and it would only work for that one ship If this could be done.

Tanuki44 Posted October 23, 2021 Posted October 23, 2021 This is mission 4, the ship is rocking, but the chopper doesn't slip ... Various tests seemed random, here are two tests that seem to work ... I have positioned a ship with a direction vector at speed 11knts, and the chopper with a short vector at the same speed as the ship and a second, more distant vector (slide_1.miz) I have positioned a ship without a direction vector at speed 11knts and the chopper with a very distant first vector (slide_2.miz) But is this the reason ??? slide_1.mizslide_2.miz 1

I put an oil platform in my test mission and start a Huey on it "Start from ramp" and it sits like a rock. I also put a Tic..kinda...rogen... cruiser in near shore and stopped and start a Huey on that too, and it sits without shimmying too. What I haven't tried is adding wind. Also, I don't know if I'd mentioned it already, I noticed this on Friday after the Forrestal update. A guy in my group was hosting. I was sitting on the Forrestal in the Huey and I don't thing I had the engine running yet. I was remarking that the Huey was rocking back and forth but otherwise staying put; a little like while starting the engine, but much smaller rocking, and having the engine running didn't change it either. My groupe mate got in to a Huey on the Forrestal too and noted that it was shimmying forwards, fairly quickly. Going into F2 view and switching to his Huey and it could be seen very distinctly, but as I said, it was only with his Huey, and he was hosting. He host through the client btw, so DCS was running locally for him. I have yet to try how things look when I run the mission on my ded. server and join. 1 When you hit the wrong button on take-off System Specs.
