medway Posted October 24, 2021 Posted October 24, 2021 In real life how far can the wire 'stretch'. I just made a hard landing and the F18 got all the way to the end of the ship before stopping. When I checked f2 I saw it had caught the wire (third) and it had stretched all the way to the end of the ship still attached to the hook.

Jackjack171 Posted October 27, 2021 Posted October 27, 2021 It's about 244 ft. of runout if I recall! The length matters not at all. When an aircraft is on final or in the groove the arresting gear is set to whatever A/C's max weight. But say, a pilot were to land faster than normal or an incorrect weight setting was made. There are other factors as I recall. I am not an ABE though, I was an ABH. The wire can go far. An Aircraft can get caught in the nets off the angle. 1 DO it or Don't, but don't cry about it. Real men don't cry!
