When Lomac came out I was new to flight sims. And it is so beautiful that it has captivated me. But since that time I have been stumbling through a morass of confusion trying to learn the game (sim).

One of the greatest difficulties I've had with LOMAC since it came out was finding documentation that was sufficiently thorough that it would allow me to learn the sim. It's been a steep learning curve which I don't mind, generally. But some information seems to be absent in the manual, and some is scattered about in various fora and private sites.

It is exhausting to search it out. This one factor could spell difficulty for developers.

I am just wondering, then, if v1.1 will come with a new manual? Or some sort of expansion of the old one?

Thanks....

I flew my first flight sim in the eighties. I think it was some game on the good old Commodore 64. Things were pretty simple then. You started the engine, increased your throttle, and withdrew your landing gear when up in the air. To make your debut with Lomac must be pretty tough... :)

I agree about the manual being lacking in some areas. Luckily, we have a great community here, with people contributing training missions, and providing help when you ask for it on the forums.

Thanks for the replies guys. Yes, I agree it's a great community and very helpful.

GGTharos; thanks for the good word; glad to know there's going to be a bettrer manual :D I wonder how you know this. I did several searches and couldn't find anything about it. Do you, by any chance, have a link where this is discussed?

And will it be a readme or Acrobat? Included in the D/L or posted somewhere?

I forget where I read it but it was either posted elsewhere on the lockon site in the FC description. It was absolutely mentioned that the manual was remade by ED to be much more relevant and useful unlike what we got from UBI.

AFAIK it will be a PDF included with the CD, with the possibility of a print version, but I am totally unsure about the latter.

also you might want to buy THE Lock On Manual...

http://www.lomac-manual.com/

even though 1.1 is coming and there are changes, this manual is a well made purchase...

and maybe ED and Nic Cole will update it for 1.1... though that means i´ll have to buy another one...

EDIT:

Nic says this in his page:

"07/1/05

New binders have been produced (250). This is probably the last order. "

so you´d better hurry if you want one...

he was asking for a manual... i gave him a choice... i did not tell him to go and buy it... i merely pointed that it existed and where he could get it...

i´ve had mine for many months now and even though there were changes in 1.02, the manual is still a great resource of knowledge...

the introduction part and training is also very good for someone that is starting to play Lock On.

whether he gets the manual or not... that is enterily his choice...

Here's a quote from lockon.ru

The manual has been significantly broadened in scope and adjusted. All area of aircraft operations are fully described along with detailed descriptions of weapons, sensors and other systems.

Hey, I'm looking forward to an updated version of the manual, and I'm especially looking forward to a detailed look at weapons, radars etc. Found the original manual lacking in many of these aspects.

I'm one of those who bought a manual from Nic Cole (http://www.lomac-manual.com), and it would be great if he could produce these extra pages, so that we could order them without having to order a new manual. However, I'm not sure we could fit the new pages into the folder that the manual comes in. It depends on how many new pages there will be. And furthermore, I am not sure about whether Nic Cole will do another version. I don't think he earned very much doing the original, and there is a lot of work related to putting a new one together. Well, that's my personal view of things, of course...

My gut feeling is that Nic lost interest in any addional energy spent on this project....

I seriously dought if this was a profitable endevor for him in the longrun....

I mean this is his source of income.....

If FC is going to be a download...then all the manuals are going to be on the computer.

I would like a tangible manual that I could read when I have time while traveling etc...

either you print the electronic manuals or we all convince Nic to make another or an update of the existing Lock On: Enhanced Manual...

Nic also had a project to make a map of the region in LARGE size, but due to small interest from the community, it never happened...

:(

i still think the Enhanced manual one of my best investments for Lock On.
